"In a rut" nghĩa là gì?

'In a rut' để chỉ một lối sống cố định và buồn tẻ.
Ví dụ
I kept hoping that my life was going to get better. When it didn't, I decided to take control. I started exercising, changed my diet (chế độ ăn uống), made some new friends and kept a journal (cuốn nhật kí) of how I was going to meet my goals. Soon I was no longer in a rut (trong tình trạng bế tắc). I began to enjoy much more satisfaction with myself.
A neighbor of mine lost her job and couldn't understand why. After a couple of weeks of listening to her anger and self-pity (thương thân trách phận), I asked what kind of future she could imagine for herself. She made an inventory (kiểm kê) of her skills and decided that her job loss represented an opportunity to do some things she had never done before. So she decided to launch a different career. When last I talked to her, she was doing well as a realtor (nhân viên địa ốc).
