My grandmother recently turned 90 years old. It was a red-letter day, complete with a big family party (tiệc lớn) held in her honor (tôn kính).

July 21, 1969 was a red-letter day (ngày hết sức trọng đại) as TV viewers (người xem truyền hình) around the world watched the first astronaut (phi hành gia) step onto the surface of the Moon. What a historic event (quả thật đó là một biến cố lịch sử)!

The dust (bụi) has settled on Singles’ Day, the biggest retail day in the world. Records (các kỉ lục) have been smashed (đập tan từng mảnh) wherever you look. China’s day of e-commerce, 11 November, may be a relatively new arrival on the retail scene, but it is already streets ahead of similar red letter days such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The combined total sales for these two days was $2bn (£1.3bn) last year.

South Creake had something of a red letter day on Saturday when residents were able to take a first close look at the brand new Memorial Pavilion (sảnh đường, khuê các). The building, which acts as the village hall for South Creake, threw open its doors for a Christmas Craft Fair, ahead of the official opening early next year.
