"Hit a snag" nghĩa là gì?

'Hit a snag' (shared via VOA) có một từ mới là snag nghĩa là trở ngại. Vì thế, hit a snag dùng để chỉ việc gặp phải một trở ngại bất ngờ.

Ví dụ
Our cross-country trip started out (khởi đầu) fine in Washington D.C. We made our way through the Mid-West and saw some wonderful sights. But we heard on the radio that there's a bad accident ahead on the highway. Our plans were to get to Las Vegas tonight. It looks like we're hitting a snag. Hopefully, it's only a small delay (trì hoãn ít lâu).

My brother doesn't have much luck (không may mắn) getting his stories published. Every time he comes close, he hits a snag. The publishing company always has some kind of problem with his work: they want him to change the plot (cốt truyện) or a character. I can understand why he gets frustrated (nản lòng).

Kemian Wood Industry, which used to boast of the quality of its composite floorboards, took radical steps to deal with the downturn. It switched its focus to online gaming and changed its name. After its rechristening as Zeus Entertainment in early March, its share price doubled in short order. This past week, though, its transition plan hit a snag.
