"Cow towns" nghĩa là gì?

'Cow towns' nghĩa là thị trấn xa xôi, biệt lập (a small, isolated, or unsophisticated town; a town or city in a cattle-raising area of western North America).

Ví dụ
“With the arrival of Route 66, coffee shops and truck stops replaced the saloons and cattle yards of boisterous (náo nhiệt, huyên náo, ầm ĩ) cow towns, and motel and service stations replaced the hotels and blacksmith shops of territorial-era farm towns,” Hinckley stated in his book, “Ghost Towns of Route 66.”

This goal includes producing a set of lessons and teaching tools offered free to schools and applicable in urban, suburban, and rural classrooms. “I need a curriculum that will thrive in Northwest Idaho,” Acheson says, meaning that college towns and cow towns alike need to refocus on teaching life skills.

Colorful ads depicted fruit groves flourishing along its Great Plains tracks—fantastic claims that won the railroad the nickname of Jay Cooke’s Banana Republic. Cow towns were puffed up (quảng cáo láo, quảng cáo khuếch khoác) into vast metropolises (thủ phủ chính của một vùng), and Duluth, Minnesota, was trumpeted (công bố, loan báo) to European immigrants as the “Zenith City of the Unsalted Seas.” When grain prices fell after the Franco-Prussian war, the fortunes of the Northern Pacific and other railroads fell along with them. Thus began Jay Cooke’s undoing.

Alan Watts và Jiddu Krishnamurti nói về chiến tranh, nỗi sợ và tâm linh

Two powerful speakers give a hopeful and empowering message to humanity.

You can always count on the late philosopher and Zen Buddhist Alan Watts to turn a very complicated subject into a simple lesson in wisdom. In this beautiful video made by vlogger The World Is Yours, lectures by Alan Watts and the amazing Jiddu Krishnamurti are set to powerful images to give a hopeful and empowering message to humanity.

With clips from movies The Thin Red Line, Baraka and the Tree of Life, plus wise words from Muhammed Ali and haunting music from Terrence Blanchard's 25th hour, this touching video is worth contemplating. We may find ourselves teetering on the brink of another world war, but there's still time to change, say Watts and Krishnamurti. Humanity must understand the collective psyche: we need to see our tribalist, fear-based reactions for what they truly are…and evolve.

"Brownstone district" nghĩa là gì?

'Brownstone district' nghĩa là khu nhà ở của người giàu.

Ví dụ
Roosevelt left his law studies at Columbia to accept the nomination of Republican Club of the 23rd Assembly District, the so-called "brownstone district," bounded by East 40th and 80th Streets and Lexington and Seventh Avenues.

Our elected officials created regulations to enforce, a "Brownstone" district within the city. That foolishness stemmed from their dream to be prosperous like Plymouth or Northville, which actually had origins as small villages, and have authentic downtowns, which were born with the town.

Pierpont Morgan’s life was now prosperous and settled. He was making the gigantic salary of $75,000 a year. He and Fanny lived in a brownstone at 6 East Fortieth Street, just across Fifth Avenue from the Croton Reservoir, which arose like a vast Egyptian tomb on the site of today’s New York Public Library.
