"Caesar's wife must be above suspicion" nghĩa là gì?

'Caesar's wife must be above suspicion' = 'vợ của Caesar phải không bị nghi ngờ', Ceasar giải thích khi li dị vợ Pompeia - bị nghi ngờ ngoại tình với Clodius

-> kết giao với người nổi tiếng phải không bị nghi ngờ là không trong sạch (the associates of public figures must not even be suspected of wrongdoing).

"We are duty bound to point out that such allegations against the EC, which has to work by the principle Caesar's wife must be above suspicion, will malign (nói xấu, phỉ báng, vu khống) its autonomous functioning," Stalin said in a letter to party workers on a day when Modi is in Gujarat to launch various initiatives.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley supported the Supreme Court's recent direction to the Centre to set up special courts to deal with criminal cases involving legislators and politicians, as Opposition MPs raised concerns on "singling out" elected representatives. Jaitley said "Caesar's wife must be above suspicion" and urged political parties to rise and set an example.

Back in the days of ancient Rome, then–high priest Julius Caesar famously divorced his wife, Pompeia, after a would-be lover snuck into a women’s-only festival to attempt to seduce her. The seduction failed, but Caesar cast out his wife anyway, saying that “Caesar’s wife must be above suspicion.” Regardless of the truth of the matter, it was more important to Caesar to avoid even the possibility of being seen as a cuckold (anh chồng bị cắm sừng) than it was to make a decision based on the truth about his wife’s behavior. Likewise, the Pence/Graham rule can effectively ensure that the men who make a public point of following it are likewise “above suspicion.” The rule preserves their reputation, not so-called female virtue, and functions on appearances, not fact.
