"That makes two of us" nghĩa là gì?

cùng tâm trạng... Photo courtesy Mārtiņš Vilcēns.

'That makes two of us' nghĩa là người sau ở vị thế/cùng quan điểm với người (phát biểu) trước; hai chúng ta là một.

Ví dụ
I can explain the Jaguars struggles on offense, I can't explain how the NFL's No. 1 defense could be so thoroughly beaten by the League's 25th ranked offense other than to say it started up front. Campbell told me in the locker room (phòng thay đồ) after the game (sau trận đấu) he couldn't remember this defense ever being beaten so thoroughly. That makes two of us.

Your one happens to be a nurse and she plans to nurse the doctor back to health. The nurse puts on a fake accent and the blind doctor hasn't a clue she's the same one who ran off with the Italian Opera singer. They fall in love all over again. But then the opera singer finds her and he tells the doctor your one is the same your one as the your one who left him. Confused? That makes two of us.

'Put two and two together' nghĩa là rút ra kết luận rõ ràng/hiển nhiên từ điều gì/chứng cứ đã biết; cứ thế mà suy ra (thì).

Ví dụ
After Lucy learned the truth about the Tooth Fairy that year, she put two and two together and wrote her mom a letter about Santa.

When Fabio Capello resigned (từ chức) as England manager and Redknapp stood on the steps of Southwark Crown Court a free man, the footballing world put two-and-two together to make him the next England manager.

Whether Luke Skywalker’s EU wife Mara Jade might show up in next year’s Star Wars: Episode IX? It’s worth noting that this idea hasn’t come out of thin air. Earlier this year, a casting call reportedly went out that was looking for “a female lead, 40-50 years old, to play the role of MARA.” Naturally, the name was enough to inspire the wishful thinking of fans, and when the casting of Keri Russell in an unnamed role was announced a few months later, some theorists put two and two together.

In case you missed it, Scottish dart player Gary Anderson defeated Dutchman Wesley Harms 10-2 to earn a spot in the quarterfinals of the Gland Slam of Darts. But the match was not without a whiff (mùi hôi, dấu hiệu) of controversy (gây tranh cãi). In a post-match interview, Harms claimed that he wasn’t able to play to the best of his abilities because there was a terrible smell on stage that likely came from the posterior (mông đít) of his opponent (đối thủ). He said Anderson left a “fragrant (mỏng manh, yếu ớt) smell (mùi)” behind and that it will “take [him] two nights to lose this smell from my nose.”

Those might have seemed like harsh (cay nghiệt, gay gắt, khe khắt) comments coming from a likely frustrated (thất vọng, tuyệt vọng) loser (thất bại, thua cuộc), but it’s not as though Anderson did a great job defending the honor of his ass. Rather than play the “whoever smelt it, dealt it” card, the Scotsman went some serious lengths to deny (cự tuyệt, bác bỏ) any and all accusations (lời buộc tội).

Researchers asked 114 volunteers to watch a video in which a woman had her bag stolen and then answer a questionnaire about what they could recall.

After watching the video, participants were split into groups - one was told to walk forwards or backwards 30 feet (10m) while a control group stood in one place.

They were then asked twenty questions about the events in the video and it was found that the backward-walking group got two more answers correct on average than the forward-walkers and the non-walkers.

When Naomi Stahl got home Friday night with her takeout order from Cava, she discovered an ingredient (phần hợp thành, thành phần) in her salad bowl that she had not ordered.

A live frog.

“It was jumping all around the bowl,” said Stahl, who lives in Northwest Washington. “Its legs were really long.”

Like mice parts that occasionally show up in fast-food burgers, the frog in Stahl’s salad was an invasive (xâm nhập, lan tràn) protein.

Cava, the fast-growing Mediterranean restaurant chain that started in Rockville, Md., and has dozens of locations around the country, does not offer frog legs on its menu — dead or alive.
