"Be the way to go" nghĩa là gì?

Hãy lựa chọn một và chỉ một mà thôi. Photo by Carolyn from Pexels

"Be the way to go" = con đường phù hợp nhất để đi -> quyết định, lựa chọn, phương án tối ưu nhất.

Ví dụ
For impeachment (luận tội, buộc tội) , quick and narrow is the way to go.

These principles (nguyên tắc) will encourage and inspire readers to try them and seeing the results in their own lives, come to believe this really is the WAY TO GO! WAY TO LIVE!!

I do think that there are many educators who believe this is the way to go. And there are many parents and young people who believe this is the kind of school they would want to go to.

In fact, Super Searchers in every previous book in this series have mentioned that there are times when primary research (nghiên cứu nguồn gốc) is the best way go, and times when it's the only way to go.

"Bluff way out" nghĩa là gì?

"Bluff one's way out (of something)" có từ "bluff" nghĩa là lừa bịp, dối trá. Cụm từ này được hiểu là cố gắng tránh né chuyện gì (thường là những tình huống tiêu cực, khó khăn) bằng cách lừa dối người khác.

Ví dụ
President Trump apparently thought he could bluff and bluster his way out of being impeached (buộc tội), but he was wrong. His place of dishonor (thiếu uy tín) in history is now all but assured.

UK prime minister (thủ tướng) Boris Johnson hopes to bluff his way out of the Brexit mess he finds himself in. But according to law experts (chuyên gia luật) he could end up being jailed (bị bỏ tù).

There are plenty of things that we can do with Frankie Peanuts in this deck. We can force blocks, we can bluff our way out of dire (thảm khốc) situations, and we can calculate our best plays from the answers to the questions posed.

"Give a fair shake" nghĩa là gì?

"Give (one) a fair shake" = Trao cơ hội hoặc sự đối xử công bằng cho ai thử làm việc gì.

Ví dụ
He's going to give everyone a fair shake. He coaches everyone the same, he doesn't show favoritism (sự thiên vị) and he rewards hard work and effort.''.

The San Francisco 49ers may take a knee and thank the honesty of the game clock operator in CenturyLink Field for giving the 49ers a fair shake on the most expensive penalty of the 2019 football season.

Arrollo wrote: “One of your statements in this article says he plays ‘dirty’ and you even bring his family into the article; I wonder what that’s all about.” He later concluded his letter with: “I am a strong supporter of the Honorable Channce Condit and wish him well in all his endeavors (sự cố gắng) and pray those who own the ink will give him a fair shake based on merit (giá trị, phẩm hạnh), not past issues that did not involve him.”

"Give a bloody nose" nghĩa là gì?

"Give a bloody nose" = Khiến ai xịt máu mũi -> Bị đánh bại hoặc bị cho một đòn thật nặng trong một cuộc thi đấu hoặc cạnh tranh.

Ví dụ
China is likely planning to give the United States a “bloody nose” in Asia — economically and militarily (về mặt kinh tế và quân sự).

WE ARE in the shopping centre. Rewind slightly. This is Christmas Armageddon. I heard of a man giving another man a bloody nose over the last bag of Brussels sprouts (cải brussel) in the supermarket.

It’s brutally fast, the experience enhanced by never having to worry about wheelspin (trượt bánh xe) and the absolutely instant throttle (bộ điều chỉnh) response. Time pressures prevented us recording laptimes around the Haunted Hills circuit but on a short, constantly twisting circuit like this, it’s almost certain the Tesla would give the BMW a bloody nose. On a more conventional circuit (vòng đua), we’d expect those positions to be reversed.

Sao sinh viên không thích đến trường?

sẽ không còn "tự do" nữa...
Fudan University, a prestigious Chinese university known for its liberal atmosphere, recently deleted “freedom of thought” from its charter and added paragraphs pledging loyalty to the Chinese Communist Party, further eroding academic freedom in China.

In a notice (link in Chinese) revealing the revised version of its 2014 constitution submitted by Fudan that was published on the education ministry’s website yesterday (Dec. 17), the Shanghai university was found to have made more than 40 revisions to its bylaws. The changes went into effect in early December, according to the notice. In the original version, the university said that its “educational philosophy” was in accordance to the values advocated in its school song (video in Chinese), which are “academic independence and freedom of thought.” In the revised version, “freedom of thought” was taken out.

"Any which way" nghĩa là gì?

Thử rất nhiều cách nhưng vẫn chưa chạy đúng ý đồ. Photo by Lukas from Pexels

"Any which way" = bất cứ cách nào có thể.

Ví dụ
Any which way you slice it, 2019 has been a banner year (năm kỷ lục) for NXT.

“I’ve been running this data (dữ liệu) any which way and I can’t figure out what the differences are,” Walker told Capital News Service.

Other immigrants (dân nhập cư) could apply for citizenship (quyền công dân) following the due procedure (đúng thủ tục). CAA does not affect Indian citizens, Muslims or otherwise, in any which way.

The lines are blurring (mờ đi), any which way you look. Thanks to the incredible pace (tốc độ kinh ngạc) of scientific progress, the very definition of what it means to be 'human' is becoming an increasingly open question.

"All the way live" nghĩa là gì?

Tuổi trẻ là vui vẻ hết mình. Photo by Dennis Magati from Pexels

"All the way live" có nghĩa là tuyệt vời hoặc thông minh, phi thường.

Ví dụ
That brother is defiintely all the way live. He's got 10 overall.

How does it feel to live in the big city? Deonica stopped in what she was doing, then turned around to tell the youngest of the family, “It's all the way live, child! I work at this restaurant that has a bar and all of the rich people in the city come in to eat."

"The sound begins to groove and your feet begin to move
It's all the way live
Come on
It's all the way live
Fun, fun, fun, fun
It's all the way live" (lời bài hát "It’s All the Way Live" - Lakeside)

"Cross someone's path" nghĩa là gì?

Photo by: Anna Vander Stel on Unsplash

"Cross someone's path" = cắt ngang đường (ai) -> nghĩa là gặp gỡ ai đó, nhất là trong trường hợp tình cờ/vô tình.

Ví dụ
Every day when I wake up, I ask myself: Who can I help today? Who will cross my path that I can encourage (động viên)? Because that is how you rise from the ashes (tàn tro).

In so doing, he is compelled (bị ép buộc) to use all the skills he has at his disposal (tùy ý) to defeat enemies that cross his path. As he navigates his way through the battlefield from an isometric (cùng kích thước) vantage point, he functions both as a commander and as a warrior.

It’s takes a special person to play Santa, and Herbert’s passion for bringing smiles to the faces of all who cross his path during the holiday season, is proof (bằng chứng) that he is cut out for the part. But, Herbert’s love for the town of Winthrop is what really propels him to play an exquisite (trang nhã) Santa.

"Choose the path of least resistance" nghĩa là gì?

Đường nào không có hổ nhỉ? Photo by: Caleb Jones on Unsplash

"Choose the path of least resistance" = chọn lối đi ít vật cản nhất -> nghĩa là chọn cách làm hoặc quyết định hướng hành động tránh đối đầu hoặc không có/ít có khó khăn/cản trở.

Ví dụ
But when it comes time to present the concept (ý tưởng) and your boss seems iffy (không chắc chắn) about the approach, do you defend your colleague (đồng nghiệp)? Or choose the path of least resistance, and dismiss the concept?

Such is the weakness and hypocrisy (đạo đức giả) of our leaders that they’d choose the path of least resistance, duplicity (hai mặt) or "victimhood" rather than confront the demons afflicting this nation head on, writes Tebogo Khaas.

When technology becomes the driver, there is a tendency (xu hướng) to choose the path of least resistance. Moreover, in a fast-paced environment the temptation (ham muốn) to exclude (ngăn chặn) alternative viewpoints and dismiss those with legacy experience is particularly dangerous.

Két sắt bạc tỷ

xin lỗi, chúng tôi chỉ tiếp tỷ phú; triệu phú hãy tránh ra...
Welcome to the billionaires’ new piggy bank (lợn đất). A bank vault (hầm) in a grade-II listed 120-year-old former mansion (lâu đài, biệt thự) next to the Dorchester Hotel on London’s Park Lane will open for business next week.

This is no ordinary bank. This one will be slightly more discerning of its customers than the average high street bank branch. “We won’t deal with millionaires,” says Sean Hoey, managing director of the facility, run by International Bank Vaults (IBV). “We will be dealing only with billionaires.”

...The cheapest safety deposit box, which is just 5cm high, 16cm wide and 49cm deep, costs £600-a-year-to rent. That compares to £465 for a box twice the size in Harrods, and £240 in Metro Bank – the UK’s largest supplier of safety deposit boxes with 150,000 boxes across 70 branches.

"Put the genie back in the bottle" nghĩa là gì?

Photo by Alex Ware on Unsplash

"Put the genie back in the bottle" = đưa thần đèn vào lại chiếc đèn -> cụm từ này nghĩa là cố khôi phục lại tình huống bình thường như trước đây, sau khi một biến cố quan trọng nào đó đã làm thay đổi theo hướng rất tồi tệ và khó khăn hơn; cứu vãn tình hình trở lại như trước.

Ví dụ
When it comes to the modern attack surface, we can’t put the genie back in the bottle. Agencies (công ty, đại lý) will continue to invest in mobility (tính lưu động), the cloud, IoT and other innovations (sự đổi mới, cách tân), and subsequently increase their risk of exposure.

We have a choice: accept the trade-off (sự thỏa hiệp) of purported security for privacy, human rights (nhân quyền), and fairness, or put the genie back in the bottle before it is too late. My vote is for severely limiting the use of facial recognition within narrow contexts after legally vetted checks and balances have been guaranteed.

As the union, hoping to avoid unilateral (đơn phương) implementation of a salary cap, girded for a walkout in August 1994, they summoned Flood to address the membership. His impassioned (sôi nổi, xúc động mạnh) speech, with that singular concept that still applies – “Don’t let them put the genie back in the bottle” – lent a crucial bit of historical context before the walkout. Another court ruling in favor of the players sent them back to work in April 1995.

"Roll back the years" nghĩa là gì?

Chị em tôi đã có một tuổi thơ trong vắt! Photo by Andrii Podilnyk on Unsplash

"Roll back the years" nghĩa là thực hiện ở một mức độ đặc biệt cao mặc dù không còn trẻ và trong thời kỳ hoàng kim, thường sử dụng để chỉ các vận động viên; làm ai gợi nhớ, hồi tưởng về quá khứ.

Ví dụ
Finally, the Benfica director expects Ibrahimovic to roll back the years in his second spell for the Diavolo. “Ibra is Ibra. Age doesn’t count for him, even at 38, and we’ll soon see how he’s still in the right shape.”

The 74-year-old said: “I absolutely love playing my adopted country of Scotland. “It is one of my favourite places to play although I do get a little nervous.” Sir Rod will roll back the years on a career that has spanned (kéo dài, trải dài) more than five decades when he takes to the P&J Live stage.

The return of a beloved sitcom (hài kịch tình thế) is a bit like meeting up with an old mate after years apart. Sure, there’s the chance that you’ll rekindle (thắp lại, nhen nhóm) the flame of your friendship and roll back the years, but it’s equally likely that you’ll be left wondering what you liked about them in the first place.
