"Meet trouble halfway" nghĩa là gì?

"Hình như mai có bài kiểm tra một tiết!" Photo by Eunhyuk Ahn from Pexels

"Meet trouble halfway" = giữa đường gặp vấn đề -> lo lắng, căng thẳng không cần thiết về điều còn chưa xảy ra.

Ví dụ
"You should never meet troubles halfway." Maud thought Aunt Eliza a most unkind woman then.

I never meet troubles halfway, or fret (bực dọc, khó chịu) after things that are past. If bad luck comes in the way. I'm happy, because it can't last.

“Don’t meet trouble halfway” is a wise adage (ngạn ngữ). Perhaps a jittery (dễ bị kích động) Jordan should take note and await the forthcoming (sắp đến) peace deal with equanimity (bình tĩnh)– and regard it, when it does finally arrive, as a challenge and an opportunity.

"And that's what I call being a woman of sperrit, Nannie Grice!" heartily said the little tailor. "I'm not one for meeting troubles halfway neither," with an anxious glance (ánh mắt lo lắng) towards his wife, who had taken Johnnie's somewhat unwilling hand in her own, her thoughts perhaps wandering back into the past, when her boy was the same age.

"Hack way through" nghĩa là gì?

Vui chơi cũng nên biết cân đối chi tiêu nha. Photo by cottonbro from Pexels

"Hack (one's) way through (something)" = phát quang, chặt (cây) khỏi vướng đường đi. Cũng có thể hiểu là tạo ra, tìm ra cách để làm gì.

Ví dụ
Many more Indians are taking flights today. There are ways to hack one’s way through flight-ticket bookings.

OK, great. Sounds like a plan. Only one problem: You bought exactly zero stock in Popeye's this year and parties -- especially cool ones -- tend to be expensive. Well, I'm here to tell you they don't have to be and together we're going to hack our way to a seriously good New Year's Eve party on a budget.

All the water has disappeared from your village and it's up to you to save the day! Go on an adventure to connect the water pipes (đường ống nước) and bring water back to your village. Solve puzzles (giải đố) and hack your way through 15 levels of fun and challenging islands. When you're done, build and program your own levels to challenge other players!

Món nào ngon trên máy bay AirAsia?

ko cần phải đi máy bay mới biết,

đến nhà hàng Santan, ở Kuala Lumpur thử trực tiếp nhé
Out of the many repulsive (ghê tởm, đáng ghét, kinh tởm) things about air travel, airline food probably ranks high. But not for AirAsia.

Asia’s largest low-cost carrier is betting people love its food so much that it opened its first restaurant on Monday, offering the same menu it sells on flights. It’s not a gimmick (mẹo quảng cáo, mánh lới quảng cáo), either: AirAsia, based in Malaysia, said it plans to open more than 100 restaurants globally within the next five years.

The quick-service restaurant’s first location is in a mall in Kuala Lumpur. It’s called Santan, meaning coconut milk in Malay, which is the same branding AirAsia uses on its in-flight menus.

Entrees cost around $3 USD and include local delicacies such as chicken rice and the airline’s signature Pak Nasser’s Nasi Lemak dish, a rice dish with chilli sauce. Locally sourced coffee, teas and desserts are also on the menu.

"Go toe to toe" nghĩa là gì?

"Go toe to toe" = Đôi công/đối đầu -> Trực tiếp cạnh tranh hoặc chiến đấu với ai.

Ví dụ
Popular YouTubers Jake Paul and AnEsonGib are due to go toe-to-toe in a boxing match on January 30. Over the last few days, they’ve both taken to YouTube to promote the fight with Paul posting a trailer and Gib posting a promotional video. However, in a strange turn of events, Gib’s promotional video has now been removed from YouTube after a copyright claim from Paul.

Slaughtneil have been rightly recognised for their club heroics (anh hùng, quả cảm) in recent times, swapping between football and hurling to emerge from their south Derry home and go toe to toe with the flagship (tàu đô đốc) names around the country. But serial county and provincial wins have not materialised into a national breakthrough (sự đột phá), a trend that is a source of deep frustration for them.

But YouTube has ultimately realized that trying to go toe to toe with Disney or Netflix would only result in an ill-advised cash burn, and more importantly, pull the the platform (nền tảng, mô hình) away from its unrivaled (vô đối, không đối thủ) model of an ad-supported platform with countless hours of content. While the streaming leaders must constantly seek out the next big idea to throw money at to keep their subscribers interested, YouTube has its army of creators that it shares ad revenue (doanh số quảng cáo) with, coupled with its low-cost original ventures, and that's enough to keep eyeballs glued to phone screens and attract advertisers. YouTube is fast becoming the platform of choice for advertisers to reach out to younger consumers. Analysts estimate that YouTube generates between $16 billion and $25 billion of annual revenue for Alphabet and with double-digit growth in 2018.

"Pull a stunt" nghĩa là gì?

Ngầu chưa! Photo courtesy: jamz2009 LIVERPOOL

"Pull a stunt" = làm trò nguy hiểm -> làm một việc gì đó ngu ngốc hoặc nguy hiểm.

Ví dụ
He says he loves his kids, but when he pulls a stunt like this it makes me wonder (kinh ngạc).

There are deals on Chromebooks, and then there are RIDICULOUS (lố bịch) deals on Chromebooks. This one falls in the latter (cái sau) category, and it isn’t the first time we’ve seen Google pull a stunt like this with this particular Chromebook. The only difference this time around is the fact that we have a firm (chắc chắn) end date on the bundle sale and it isn’t too far in the future.

Johnson isn’t the first Tory (thành viên Đảng bảo thủ Anh) PM to hate the BBC. Margaret Thatcher detested (ghét cay ghét đắng) it with a passion, but even she would never have tried to pull a stunt like this. Getting legislation (pháp luật) to change the BBC’s funding (tài trợ) model would be difficult, though not impossible. And stranger things have happened. Like Johnson becoming prime minister.

"Rack and ruin" nghĩa là gì?

Được hôm vào bếp lại thành ra thế này. T-T. Photo courtesy: gibbon666666

"Rack and ruin" = phá hủy và tiêu tan -> tiêu tan thành mây khói; trở nên cực kỳ tồi tệ.

Ví dụ
A man who contacted the Telegraph anonymously (ẩn danh) said: “I was walking my dog and was appalled (kinh hoàng) to find the lovely spot at the timber ponds in rack and ruin.”

Yet nothing is better calculated to make Blairites (người ủng hộ nguyên thủ tướng Anh Tony Blair) recoil (rút lui) in choreographed horror (sự hoảng sợ có tổ chức) than the spectre (bóng ma) of a return of the “bad old days” of the 1970s when Britain supposedly was falling to rack and ruin, all the fault of rapacious (tham lam) labour unions.

The perennial (lâu năm) bed, early morning. It’s a thick line between an unstudied cottage (nhà ở nông thôn) garden look and rack and ruin. My garden has crossed over to the rack and ruin side. That tall thing in the middle is a tree of some sort that managed to bolt up (mọc thẳng) to a height of 8 feet while I was looking the other way.
