"Hard-nosed" nghĩa là gì?

Oh beautiful Sunday! Photo by  bruce mars

"Hard-nosed" = Nghẹt mũi -> Cứng nhắc, nghiêm khắc, không cảm xúc, không rung động chút nào hoặc chuyện đâu ra đấy.

Ví dụ
But uncorking that impact requires Greenway to turn on a hard-nosed style that is the opposite of his easygoing personality, and flipping that mental switch can be tough.

Walsh was a hard-nosed negotiator who moved to reduce union power at BA while tackling a crippling pension deficit (thiếu hụt, cắt giảm lương hưu) and ensuring the airline’s profitability.

“James Banks, back-to-back games where he’s had a great motor. I thought Moses Wright played his tail off. He and James obviously missed a lot of short shots, but I can live with that in a sense because they played so hard. Everything we talk about is motor. Michael Devoe dove on the floor multiple times, came up with some great 50/50 balls. Bubba Parham, great 50/50 balls. Obviously, Jose [Alvardado] was tough and hard-nosed. Obviously, our guard play, we’ve just got to limit some of those turnovers, but I was proud of all the guys and we’ve gotten better. That’s a great team that we played, a team that’s good enough to win the National Championship.”

"Get up nose" nghĩa là gì?

"Get up (one's) nose" = Khiến ai bực tức và điên đầu.

Ví dụ
Heh! given her evident self-satisfaction over her own facility with English, I'm guessing that a comment like this would get up her nose.

On reflection, it's been a lifelong habit of taking them for granted, pushing against their boundaries, enjoying swearing because I know it annoys my mum, and talking about politics with my dad because I know my Guardian-like principles get up his nose. God, what an ungrateful brat I am, even now.

The GSX-R1000R is one of those machines that reveals itself like an onion, showing off a new layer to its personality the longer you spend with it. Like a good girlfriend, most of the personality traits were welcome, occasionally there’d be things that’d get up my nose, but for the most part, Suzi and I got along swimmingly.

Lose you to love me. Photo by  Allef Vinicius

"Get (one's) nose out of (somebody's) business" = Đừng xía mũi vào chuyện người ta -> Đừng can thiệp vào chuyện người khác, hãy tự lo chuyện của mình đi.

Ví dụ
Get out of here! Get your nose out of my business!

Who do you think you are? Get your nose out of my business!

Are you serious? A government as nanny is not necessary. We already love and care for our children and grandchildren, now I suppose you'll turn around and claim anything good, as if we would not have treated them right without you? Ignorant f***s is what you are. I agree with OldPharts' answer, too. MYOB Michelle and company. Get your nose out of my business!

"Follow (one's) nose" = Đi trực tiếp theo hướng mà mũi ngửi được; ngửi thấy mùi chỗ nào thì cứ theo hướng đó mà đi; tin tưởng vào bản năng/thiên hướng của ai khi quyết định làm việc gì.

Ví dụ
As a young PI, I was eager to follow up on this idea, but funding such an effort would have been very challenging and fraught with uncertainty without the long timescale of the Early Career program and the freedom to follow my nose.

Aubie is a very sweet girl, who loves car rides and going on hikes with her family. She has plenty of energy and like all hounds she likes to follow her nose, so she would be a good fit for an active family. Aubie has been good with other dogs, cats and kids she has met at the rescue.

When Jarred smells a story, we let him follow his nose. This deeply reported tale of No2 Opus Place, the project that would become the tallest residential building in Georgia, if only it could ever get built, is a perfect example of that. The backer behind the development, Jarred found, is Shaya Boymelgreen, a New York developer who lost big in the Great Recession, then lost the right to build anything else in the Big Apple after the state attorney (luật sư) general found him guilty of defrauding (ăn gian, lừa gạt) his buyers. Jarred went to the site multiple times over the course of weeks, toured the model unit and even found a prospective buyer.

"Nose out" nghĩa là gì?

Phượt thủ.  Photo by  Arthur Poulin

"Nose (someone or something) out" = Đánh hơi -> Đánh bại đối thủ với khoảng cách sát nút; khám phá/phát hiện điều gì bằng cách hành động hết sức cẩn thận và từ từ.

Ví dụ
"So, it's nice to nose him out at the end. He's trying to beat me and I'm trying to beat him, but we're both happy for each other." Even with all his tournament experience, Hermanson had to fight off nerves down the stretch and drain a tough three-foot putt on the 18th hole to stay in front.

Truthfully, Bb Pilipinas Globe 2017 Nelda Ibe was destined for a title higher than Globe. She is really a favorite by both Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc (BPCI) and ABS-CBN. But nerves prevented her from fluidly expressing thoughts during the Q&A. She was able to cross over, though. But that served to pave the way for both Clenci and Rodriguez to catch up and nose her out in the final rankings.

Fully underground or protruding (nhô ra, thò ra) slightly from the soil, pecan truffles (nấm cục hồ đào pecan) have evaded foragers (người đánh phá, lục lọi) for decades. Although they grow on the roots of wild and commercial trees alike, the tawny knobs (núm vàng nâu) are easiest to find in orchards (vườn cây ăn quả), where neatly maintained grounds help diggers spot them and dogs nose them out. But they can still be maddeningly difficult to locate, especially without a canine (giống chó) companion. “One way to find them is to rake hundreds of trees,” Cohen says. “That’s why the dog is so valuable. Tate can smell them and take you right to them.”

"Button nose" nghĩa là gì?

A new look for today. Photo by  Sebastian Unrau

"Button nose" = Chỉ người có mũi nhỏ, tròn và hơi tẹt thì thường được nhận xét rất cuốn hút và dễ thương.

Ví dụ
And with her cheeky (trơ tráo, cả gan) expression and cute button nose, royal fans couldn't help but notice how similar Diana's niece looked to Charlotte.

CES this year saw some really interesting robots and Lovot is one of them. Known as the love robot, it is designed to bring cheer into people's lives. The device acts as a mechanical pet. It has two cute big eyes and a button nose. The robot also has two flipper arms which wave around whenever Lovot wants to be picked up or dance or interact with the users. The robot comes in different colours and it has a small, soft and huggable body.

For years, royal fans have pointed out the similarities between Prince George and his maternal grandfather Michael Middleton. From his eyes and hair, to his button nose, the six-year-old future King has certainly inherited (được thừa hưởng, theo gen) facial features from his mother’s side of the family. However, the latest photo of the Prince appears to show that the Spencer genes run strong too. In the official portrait Buckingham Palace released last week to mark the start of a new decade, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s oldest child looks like the spitting image of his grandmother Princess Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer.

"Silver bullet" nghĩa là gì?

Photo by: Alex Azabache on Unsplash

"Silver bullet" = viên đạn bạc -> nghĩa là phương án giải quyết hiệu quả ngay tức khắc cho một vấn đề khó khăn (bạc/vàng, gần giống (ở việt nam) là "đấm mõm bằng tiền" các bạn nhỉ :))

Ví dụ
But New South Wales Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons says hazard (mối nguy) reduction burns aren't the silver bullet to every bushfire (cháy rừng) season.

“There is no silver bullet solution. We are determined (kiên quyết), though, to keep at this and to win this fight,” Jonathan Spalter, President and CEO of USTelecom – The Broadband Association, told YFi PM.

A much-hyped strategy (chiến lược) to lower health costs isn't a silver bullet, researchers concluded (kết luận).

"Brown nose" nghĩa là gì?

Mũi em nâu nhưng em không biết nịnh hót để được ăn hotdog. Photo by  Jametlene Reskp

"Brown nose" = Mũi nâu -> Kẻ nịnh bợ; nịnh hót ai để xin ân huệ hoặc sự giúp đỡ.

Ví dụ
Instead of trying to impress your interviewer by telling them how great you think their company is, impress them by telling them exactly what you think they can do to improve. If you don’t, you’ll look like you’re trying to hard to be a brown nose.

She called Lefsetz a “typical LA brown nose that wants to get on a bandwagon (một đảng, phong trào lôi kéo nhiều người ủng hộ mình)” and told him, “Keep writing about the people in LA whose asses you are so far up your eyes are brown.” She added, “If you mention millennials one more f–king time I’m going to puke (ói)!”

Without wanting to sound like a bit of a brown nose, the honest answer is my colleague Natalie Gamble. She is known internationally as the UK’s leading fertility (có năng lực, khả năng làm việc hoặc sản xuất) lawyer and her tenacity (bền bỉ) and strategic approach to cases is remarkable. She is a passionate campaigner and an excellent teacher - I am proud to work alongside her.

"Bloody nose strike" nghĩa là gì?

No war, please! Photo by Duncan Kidd

"Bloody nose strike" = Đánh/tấn công chảy máu mũi -> Một cuộc tấn công trước/chặn trước của lực lượng quân đội nhằm tiêu diệt mục tiêu đang bị kìm hãm hoặc bị giới hạn về mặt phạm vị hoat động để ngăn chặn trước sự trả thù của địch.

Ví dụ
We've been fielding questions lately about a proposal reportedly under discussion within the Trump national security team for a “bloody nose” strategy on North Korea. I haven’t taken this idea as seriously as I should.

The good news is that the Trump administration is up to the challenge and is already gaming out potential reactions to ensure North Korea pays a price for its actions. At least for the moment, there is no talk of a “bloody nose” strike or military option. However, Washington is ready to increase pressure if Pyongyang decides to give up on diplomacy (tài ngoại giao) and create a crisis (khủng hoảng).

In 2017, Trump exchanged nicknames and threats of nuclear war (chiến tranh hạt nhân) with Kim. At one point, Trump threatened to “totally destroy” North Korea. Reports suggested the Trump administration was considering a preemptive military attack on North Korea — a so-called “bloody nose” strike — in what some described as an attempt to deter (ngăn chặn) North Korea from further provocations (sự khiêu khích).

"A camel's nose" nghĩa là gì?

Về miền cát trắng. Photo by  Roxanne Desgagnés

"A camel's nose (under the tent)" = Mũi lạc đà dưới cái lều -> Phép ẩn dụ nói về một hành động nhỏ và có vẻ vô hại nhưng lại mở cửa hoặc dẫn đến hành động trầm trọng hơn và có kết cục không như mong đợi.

Ví dụ
“It’s the ultimate backstab to literally say we’re coming to warn you of something that we’re investigating because we’re looking out for you and to be actually using that as a camel’s nose under the tent,” he said in an interview.

"User data has great value, and Facebook has been pretty mercenary (hám lợi) about how it collects and uses such data," Jude said. "Placing one of these portals in your home is like having a camel's nose in your tent. Once in place, there is virtually no way to guarantee privacy and safety."

Lest we forget, it has its antecedents (tiền đề) in the now-discredited charge the Trump 2016 presidential campaign colluded with Russian operatives on activities intended to alter the outcome of an election. No one has as yet proven those activities — largely the abuse of social media platforms to spread false memes favorable to Donald Trump or discrediting of Hillary Clinton to wide swaths (vùng được thám hiểm) of the electorate — changed a single vote. Yet the fact they occurred did provide enough of a camel’s nose inside the tent to spawn (xuất hiện, nảy ra) several official U.S. government investigations both before and after the election.

"Drive pigs to market" nghĩa là gì?

Nhỏ nhỏ xênh xênh quá. Photo by  Christopher Carson

"Drive (one's) pigs to market" = Như tiếng heo kêu khi đem đi bán -> Ngáy

Ví dụ
I used to have many issues: I used to drive my pigs to market so badly that my wife moved out of our room. She now sleeps in our room again,” Nazon said.

“But women tend not to drive their pigs to market as much as men and maybe their spouses (vợ chồng) aren’t as observant (quan sát, tinh ý),” he added with a laugh. “And women don’t complain like men do. Men are more likely to say ‘I’m sleepy’ whereas women say ‘I’m tired, I’m depressed and I can’t focus’. The way they present is a little different too.”

Because people with sleep apnea (ngạt, ngưng thở) tend to drive their pigs to market intensely and wake up gasping for air, doctors might recommend they sleep with a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine, which helps keep airways open. But up to 25 percent of people with the condition either don't want to use CPAP machines or they use them incorrectly.

"Drive to despair" nghĩa là gì?

"Drive (one) to despair" = Khiến ai mất hết hy vọng, buồn bã và thất vọng.

Ví dụ
And yes he drives me mad and I know I drive him to despair from time to time, but we are a team. My husband backs me up I have his back too.

Yet there are some people who truly drive me to despair, such as the ones who can't offer so much as a “thank you” wave when you let them in in traffic. Those people are the real monsters.

Piccola would undergo the solemn rite (nghi thức) of exorcism (phù phép, câu thần chú) once per week for more than 18 months, in sessions lasting up to three hours. On those days, she and the deliverance (cứu nguy, giải thoát) team (which included the clinical psychologist (nhà tâm lý) and a group of laymen (thường dân) who were there to pray and support — at times, physically — the exorcist in his work) would always begin by going to Mass. After Mass, they would pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Piccola said she was unable to pray this prayer, and the inability to do this would grate on her — the demonic seeking to drive her to despair before the rite of exorcism would even begin.

"Drive bonkers" nghĩa là gì?

"Drive (one) bonkers" = Làm cho ai loạn óc, điên đầu, cáu kỉnh và giận điên lên.

Ví dụ
Perhaps you see the mere three sacks he had in the regular season and think he isn’t driving offensive linemen bonkers. But Clowney also is constantly drawing double-teams while making plays on the ball in a manner that makes him one of the most distinct defensive forces in the NFL.

We reached out to tech billionaire (tỉ phú công nghệ) Mark Cuban to find out the things that entrepreneurs do that absolutely drive him bonkers. As a longtime investor on ABC's hit TV show Shark Tank, Cuban has encountered his fair share of entrepreneurs who’ve made some serious missteps.

Kusiak said she and others on Reed Street have had to endure traffic that normally would drive across the culvert (cống nước) but instead were detoured (đi vòng) down her normally quiet road. "Drive into a corner" nghĩa là gì?

"Drive (one) into a corner" = Vào góc hẹp/đường cùng -> Bị ép lâm vào hoàn cảnh khó khăn/rắc rối và khó giải thoát được.

Ví dụ
It happens to the best of us. The voluminous (đồ sộ, viết nhiều sách) readings and assignments that come with uni can very easily drive you into a corner. If uni is starting to be a bit too much to handle, it would be in your best interest to consider taking time off, or at least reducing your study load.

It was the day when the opposition wanted to drive him into a corner, but President Cyril Ramaphosa deflected questions and attacks like a master batsman. Even so, we know the government is now seriously considering turning to the wealthy pension funds to save the economy from collapse, writes Max du Preez in this week's edition of Afrikaans digital weekly Vrye Weekblad.

Plainly, there is no merit (giá trị, công lao) in rushing Lukashenko’s Belarus into the EU or NATO. But if Moscow continues to drive him into a corner, he may soon seek a loan from the International Monetary Fund. That would be conditional on thorough economic reform (cuộc cải cách kinh tế). He may be on the lookout, too, for European funding. That could be conditional on transparent elections, concessions (đất nhượng, tô giới) to civil society and a moratorium (tạm ngừng) on the death sentence.

"Drive (oneself) to an early grave" = Tự đào mộ sớm cho mình -> Làm/hành động một cách liều lĩnh và dại dột và khiến cái chết dễ sớm đến với chính mình.

Ví dụ
Oh, and some folks are decent human beings and understand that shit happens and don’t expect this guy to drive himself to an early grave for their personal enjoyment.

He said his other son, studying at British university, may have his Erasmus placement threatened if there is a no-deal Brexit. But his family will ‘take practical measures’, and try to avoid stress. ‘You could drive yourself to an early grave if you wanted to,’ he said.

“I got so low that I knew I had a decision to make. I could be so angry and low and bitter and I could blame someone, the world, God, I don’t know, and probably drive myself to an early grave. I made a conscious decision with my brother Conor one day. I was like ‘I have to do something here.’

"Drive over the edge" nghĩa là gì?

Hay là mình đi qua biên giới ngao du nhỉ! Photo by  Etienne Desclides

"Drive (one) over the edge" = Lái vượt biên/quá giới hạn -> Bắt buộc ai phải cam kết làm công việc họ đang xem xét hoặc sắp làm; khiến ai phải chịu sự thách thức về mặt tâm lý; quá áp lực và căng thẳng.

Ví dụ
She hopes a judge can see he suffers from a social disorder (mất trật tự an ninh xã hội) and gets Geoff the help he needs. "Unless he's put in some kind of program, if he's sentenced to a crowded jail (nhà tù chật kín tù nhân), it's probably really going to drive him over the edge," Kathy Graff said.

Bold and the Beautiful spoilers say Thomas is just getting started. So, perhaps he gaslights and haunts Hope to drive her over the edge. It wouldn’t take much to push her over. Even though Hope got her baby back, her mental state (trạng thái tâm lý) doesn’t seem quite stable (khá không ổn định). So, despite some fans being fooled by the “death” – he’s not dead at all. And Thomas Forrester’s back soon.

The mere fact of having to report to the office at a certain hour each day and leave when your manager says so could be enough to drive you over the edge -- especially if you're juggling a career along with family-related responsibilities. If you feel like you're struggling to balance all of the many things you need to do work- and home-wise, ask for more flexibility (tính linh hoạt) on the job. That could mean changing your schedule to cut back your commute time, or working from home a few days a week to better tackle (giải quyết) the numerous tasks on you plate. These days, a growing number of companies are recognizing the importance of flexibility, so it pays to go after it.

"Drive the porcelain bus" nghĩa là gì?

Nào mình cùng lên xe buýt, nào mình cùng đi chơi nhé! Photo by Lucia Lua Ramirez

"Drive the porcelain bus" = Lái xe buýt bằng sứ -> Nôn mửa rất nhiều trong toilet thường là do đã uống rượu quá nhiều.

Ví dụ
He has been criticised for spouting jargon (bắn ra, nói ra tiếng lóng) and bureaucratic gobbledegook (lối văn cầu kỳ của giới quan chức) but prime minister Kevin Rudd resorted to down-to-earth Australian vernacular (bản xứ, mẹ đẻ) in describing how a fast food snack left him "driving the porcelain bus" for a day or two.

When asked for an example of an expression that fizzled out (thất bại sau khi rầm rầm rộ rộ ban đầu, xì hơi) quickly, Eble cited “a dangling modifier (bộ điều chỉnh, chỉnh viên đu đưa/lủng lẳng),” meaning a single earring. (As in, “you know that dude with the skateboard, the one with the dangling modifier?”) Eble guesses that “dangling modifier” didn’t survive because it was too clever. She also recalled that, in the 1970s and 1980s, she encountered a slew of drunkenness-related phrases that were similarly too complex, such as a pair of terms for vomiting (nôn mửa) into a toilet, “drive the porcelain bus” and “talk to Ralph on the big white phone.” (I’ve heard that last one, actually, but from a friend who’s fond of sounding odd.)

"Drive batty" nghĩa là gì?

Aaaaaaaaa. Photo by KAL VISUALS

"Drive (one) batty" -> nghĩa là khiến ai trở nên điên dại, chọc tức ai, làm ai điên đầu và rối bời.

Ví dụ
It’s no secret that technology can drive us batty. Between glitchy (đột biến điện) apps, social media outages (ngừng chạy, thiếu điện) and data breaches, the only thing stopping some people from smashing their personal tech is the exorbitant (quá cao, cắt cổ) cost of replacing it.

Virtanen had a two-point night, giving him six points in his last seven games. He’s got a dozen goals, more than some of the biggest stars in the NHL, like Calgary’s Johnny Gaudreau. At 5-on-5, he’s putting up points at a rate second only to Elias Pettersson on the Canucks. And yet, it’s things like this flyby (chuyến bay) in the neutral zone that drive a coach batty.

See, Trump always throws something in there like, “This is worse than even the Salem witch trial” ’cause he knows it’s gonna drive everybody on the left batty. He then said, “I have no doubt the American people will hold you and the Democrats accountable in 2020. They will not soon forgive your perversion of justice (bóp méo công lý) and your abuse of power. It’s time for you and the highly partisan (người ủng hộ) Democrats in Congress to immediately cease this impeachment fantasy and get back to work for the American people. While I have no expectation that you will do this, I write this letter to you for the purpose of history and to put my thoughts on a permanent and indelible (còn vết mãi, không thể tẩy sạch) record. One hundred years from now when people look back at this affair, I want them to understand it and learn from it so that it can never happen to another president again.”

"Drive a wedge between" nghĩa là gì?

"Drive a wedge between" = Thọc một mũi giữa hai điều gì -> Chia rẽ ai/điều gì; khiến hai bên chống đối với nhau.

Ví dụ
Mr Chee said in a Facebook post that the release of such data and distinguishing (phân biệt) between Singaporeans and non-citizens in the workforce (lực lượng lao động) would drive a wedge between different groups in society, reiterating (lặp lại, nói lại) a point made by Mr Chan on Monday.

I think that combination really gives us an opportunity to put more pressure on the regime (chế độ, hệ thống cai trị) and ultimately drive a wedge between the regime and its people, because what the Iranian regime fears more than anything else, more than any strike President Trump could order, is its own people.

“It is important, on both a personal and a global level, that we keep the venues, the Olympic Village and the podium (bục đài) neutral and free from any form of political, religious or ethnic demonstrations,” said the IOC Athletes’ Commission in an introduction accompanying the rules. “If we do not, the life’s work of the athletes around us could be tarnished (làm lu mờ, ô uế), and the world would quickly no longer be able to look at us competing and living respectfully together, as conflicts (xung đột) drive a wedge between individuals, groups and nations.”

"Drive a coach and horses through" = Ngang nhiên dắt cả xe ngựa đi qua cái gì -> Xem thường điều gì mà không hề bị trừng phạt; phơi bày/bóc trần sai sót hoặc lỗ hổng của cái gì; khiến điều gì trở nên vô ích và không hiệu quả.

Ví dụ
“If he presses ahead he will drive a coach and horses through the very idea that is supposed to underpin (củng cố) the UK – the idea that this union is a partnership of equal nations.”

The defeat at Watford was the worst in a year where they have been some absolute stinkers (người hôi, chướng tai gai mắt). De Gea – for so long United’s saviour when you could drive a coach and horses through the midfield and the defence – is now making too many errors.

Northern Ireland isn’t a colony (nước thuộc địa), but it is in danger of being treated as such if a policy opposed by a clear majority is imposed against its will – a policy which will drive a coach and horses through the two core principles of the agreement: the principle that Northern Ireland’s future will be decided by consent (sự thỏa thuận), not force or might; and the acceptance of difference, the right to be British, or Irish, or both. Democracy and pluralism (tính đa nguyên) in tandem (người nọ ngồi sau người kia).

"Drive (one) to drink" = Ép/khiến ai uống rượu để quên đi muộn phiền hoặc áp lực.

Ví dụ
I hated it at first, and wondered why being alone with my thoughts would help me feel less anxious when the very idea used to drive me to drink.

Someone from Maggie’s past will show up and most likely drive her to drink. Maggie will indeed end up plastered (say rượu) by the end of the night, so it makes sense that this visitor will cause her to fall off the wagon (phải uống rượu).

Even when BoJack is earnestly trying, he learns, terrible mistakes can still happen. BoJack tosses out another patient’s water bottle full of vodka, only for it to land in an incoming crate (giỏ chai), then into his doctor’s hands. The doctor ends up blackout drunk but, remarkably, BoJack doesn’t run from the aftermath. He stays by his side and checks him into another rehab (sửa chữa, phục hồi). More miraculously, even after his doctor wakes up and berates him, the remorse (sự hối tiếc, thương xót) he feels doesn’t drive him to drink. It’s one of his first truly selfless acts this season.

"Drive (oneself) into the ground" = Làm việc đến mỏi miệt, cạn kiệt sức lực như muốn gục xuống đất.

Ví dụ
Now, if you bust through your top three with time to spare, you can go ahead and tackle some other tasks, or you can take it easy—remember, the whole point is to recover from business burnout, not drive yourself into the ground.

I know, I know — Emily's our heroine. Why would the show need to kill her in order to have a satisfying ending?! That's because, in my mind, we're actually not on a journey with Emily anymore — we're watching her drive herself into the ground because of her need for revenge (sự trả thù). Think Breaking Bad. (Sorry to those who haven't caught up on Netflix, but spoilers ahead!)

I don’t know, it just runs in the blood a little bit. I’ve done a huge amount of work on that and it’s still ‑‑ I don’t think it’s any better than it ever was, it’s just that now I’ve got people around me to keep me comfortable. That’s just how life will be. And I love my golf, but I don’t love it enough to drive myself into the ground, because life’s too short to be stressing about that all the time.

"Drive (one) to distraction" = Khiến ai mất tập trung; phá rối ai; khiến ai tức tối.

Ví dụ
“That used to drive me to distraction because there were a lot of costs that went into having these two very separate entities serving Vermonters,” she said.

When we meet her, for instance, she has arrived at her youngest son’s school to dress down the headmaster for having caned the gentle boy; she suffers through it more than he did. She has desires, doubts, more doubts about her drinking, and a quartet of children—one angel, three self-absorbed lumps—who drive her to distraction.

This is all a shame because Kanye STILL makes good music, and yet he actively sabotages (cố tình phá hủy) any chance that music has of exercising broad influence on its own merits. He could also get help for the mental illnesses that so clearly plague (quấy rối) him and drive him to distraction. That alone would prove even more influential than The College Dropout was. I’m gonna hope he searches for a cure to his demons, but I ain’t gonna count on it. He loves those demons too much.
