"Zenith of career" nghĩa là gì?

Sangeeta Kapure is a graceful and talented actor when it comes to acting and career. Sangeeta has done and a lot of different roles in the past 15 years. While Sangeeta is at her zenith of career these days with top-rated teleserial 'Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke', she has worked in many popular television shows prior to this too. And these shows were equally loved by the audience.

Kevin Greene spent more than half of his NFL career with the Los Angeles Rams. But when the former outside linebacker looks back on his 15-year career, he points to his three-year period in Pittsburgh as the pinnacle (đỉnh cao nhất) of his career. "The time of my life and for my family was our three years in Pittsburgh," Greene said Thursday in a conference call associated with his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Aug. 6. “I just loved playing in front of Steeler Nation. It was the zenith of my career."

Udenwa, public servants and urged state governments across the country to buy the book, stressing that Umez Eronini has encapsulated the secret that will take the service to the next level. In her contribution,Dame Julie Nwariaku, in her opening remarks also poured encomiums on the author for drawing attention to the missing link in Nigeria’s service delivery, adding: “I want to give credit to Mrs. Eronini for drawing all us here today it can only take a woman of stature, excellence an achiever to do this. “Through hard work she rose to the zenith of career and decided to put down her experience in writing in a book that will move the service forward.”

"Unring the bell" nghĩa là gì?

Photo by the weirdo on Unsplash

"Unring the bell" = bỏ tiếng chuông rung -> cụm từ này nghĩa là những việc mà đã làm rồi thì không thay đổi được, cũng như việc đã bấm chuông rồi thì không thể thay đổi được nó nữa.

Ví dụ
Well, we’ve learned that we don’t need fossil fuels nearly as much as they may have thought we did. Oil prices have cratered on the world market because fewer people are driving cars or working in factories. The benefits to our environment have been noticeable. Our air and water have been visibly cleaner in some historically dirty places as a result of the COVID-19 shutdown. Of course that will change as people return to work and our economy gets back to something approaching what we consider to be normal. But we can’t unring the bell.

On Thursday, with Uber poised to report a deep falloff in second-quarter revenue, the focus will be on whether San Francisco Superior Court Judge Ethan P. Schulman thinks the companies have had a fair chance to make their cases based on what Uber argues is a “woefully undeveloped factual record.” The argument carries weight because it will be hard to “unring the bell” if Schulman orders immediate compliance by the companies, according to Garden. If he does, it’s possible but not certain that Uber and Lyft could block the order while they appeal, she said.

First, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences made the sensible announcement that for 2020 alone, movies that were slated for theatrical releases but could only stream due to the ongoing pandemic would be eligible for Academy Awards. Given that it’s unclear whether movies will be back as theatrical experiences in this year of covid-19, it was the only choice, unless the academy had already decided to hand out all the trophies to Harrison Ford and an animated dog in “The Call of the Wild” or sad Ben Affleck in the sports tearjerker (phim lấy nước mắt khán giả) “The Way Back.” But having agreed to consider streaming films under extraordinary circumstances, it may be difficult for the Oscars to unring the bell.

"You know better than that" nghĩa là gì?

Con phải biết là tới giờ ngủ rồi chứ!!! Photo by Picsea on Unsplash

"You know better than that" = bạn phải biết nhiều hơn thế chứ -> cụm từ này nghĩa là ai đó phải biết điều gì nên làm, điều gì là không đúng. Thường được dùng khi một ai đó mắc lỗi sai mà họ không nên mắc phải.

Ví dụ
“You put a lot of guilt on yourself, not the person that did it to you, you beat yourself up for why you made that decision,” she said. “You worry about your family members asking you why you did that. That you’re smarter than that, you know better than that, which puts a lot more guilt on you and a lot more hurt. I wasn’t strong enough then at 14-years-old to deal with that.”

“It was a little intimidating (đáng sợ) the first few times we got together,” Anderson said. “He was tough. He would look right at me and point his finger at me and say, ‘You know better than that; you were raised better than that.’ It was like a good Methodist preacher pushing his congregation to do better.” Lowery had been the pastor of Cascade United Methodist Church in Atlanta. As a result of those informal sermons, the Atlanta-based carrier set new diversity requirements for hiring and promotion.

It’s the the sort of thing an exasperated (bực tức) parent would say to their child, so when one adult says it to another, they sound like a scold. Say you’re having a debate over politics and someone says, “Come on, you know better than that.” You can’t help but feel like they’re belittling your perspective as short-sighted and childish. Even if you’re doing something objectively bad for you—say, smoking a cigarette—when someone says, “Come on, you know better than that,” it’s such a parental rebuke that you’ll probably relapse into adolescent “don’t tell me what to do” mode and smoke more cigarettes to spite them. If you disagree with someone’s opinion, there’s no problem with saying that directly. If you disagree with their lifestyle choices, it’s usually best to mind your own business.

"You can say that again" nghĩa là gì?

Photo by Clay Banks on Unsplash

"You can say that again" = đúng vậy -> cụm từ này nghĩa là hoàn toàn đồng ý.

Ví dụ
I had lunch recently at a small café and commented that some people were making a fortune out of the situation. His response was “You can say that again. I used to pay £10 for a 100 disposable (dùng một lần) gloves for kitchen staff. I now have to pay £69.” He also agreed with me that soap and water was as good as, if not better, than this so-called sanitiser they have to use on tables and chairs.

“You can say that again – on many levels,” Olson confirmed. “There are other things that we do to tap into to help existing businesses or potential new ones to bring them to the Dodge County region. We tap into a lot with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation and other agencies that have a lot more to offer than the county does. We provide the bridge and help businesses understand what kind of incentives are out there. We help them get in touch with the right folks to make their visions reality.”

I’m getting more practice since my hearing is starting to go. I just nod like a fool and agree with whatever someone says. Like if someone were to say, “You sure look stupid.” “Yep, yep – you can say that again,” I reply – all the while grinning like a crazed baboon (khỉ đầu chó) when I don’t have a clue. Of course, I’m not stupid, just a bit hard of hearing, slow on the uptake or not paying much attention to what folks are saying due to a complete lack of interest. I know that’s a recipe for living in a bubble of ignorance, but it works for me.

"Smile when you say that" nghĩa là gì?

"Smile when you say that" = hãy cười khi bạn nói vậy -> nghĩa là cho tôi biết rằng bạn đang đùa thôi khi nói về điều tế nhị hoặc có tính lăng mạ.

Ví dụ
Now he is sitting atop his own personal mountain. And how’s that view, Kenny “smile when you say that” Copley? “Oh, man,” Kenny said, pausing. “The view is beautiful. Just beautiful.”

Heartland a corny horse opera aimed at the sticks? Smile when you say that, partner. The Sunday night family favourite is CBC's stealth hit, galloping off with a steady million viewers a week.

"As someone who has watched the response to COVID-19 and coordinating the masks, it was Connie, Lisa-Anne Chatten, Twanya Smith and so many others that just made sure the PPE got where it needed to be," stated Sidsworth. "They helped agencies like ourselves keep functioning when we were struggling to find the equipment to do it - it just seemed so appropriate. You can't help but smile when you say that because it just really resonates with who Connie is. She is just always trying to extend a hand to somebody, some agency, some group saying 'okay how do we get you to the next level, how do we support you to where you need to be.'"

"Say to my face" nghĩa là gì?

"Say (something) to (one's) face" = nói trước mặt -> nghĩa là nói trực tiếp với ai, đặc biệt là điều quan trọng, phạm lỗi, nhạy cảm hoặc tiêu cực.

Ví dụ
“I had him on toast that day. Of course, I wouldn't say that to his face. If I was training against him, I would imagine he would have me on toast more than I had him on toast but that was a good day for me.

I'm talking about people I know through work, friends and family members and acquaintances who believe in their heart of hearts that vaccines are not safe. Some of them even say it to my face.

She wrote: "Sadly this little dog called Buddy had to be put to sleep last night because some idiot let her dog go up to Buddy and her dog bit his nose off. "The owner didn't even apologise or show any remorse (sự ăn năn, hối hận) whatsoever. "I don't care if she sees this, I'd say it to her face, she's irresponsible. "This isn't the dogs fault, the owner is to blame!"

Covid-19 như này, bạn có cuồng chân không?

đi du lịch tưởng tượng nhé,

công ty/đại lý du lịch đưa bạn ra sân bay, check in, kiểm tra hành lý, tháo giày, cởi thắt lưng qua hàng rào an ninh, ngồi trong máy bay, nửa ngày rồi về... :D
When you’ve been cooped up for months, you start to miss aspects of life you used to dread. Remember airport security lines? Remember 3.4-fluid-ounce bottles? Remember taking off your shoes and then scrambling to put them back on at the end of a conveyor belt? What we wouldn’t give for those experiences now.

The airport is hosting a tour that will allow people to go to the airport, without actually going anywhere. The half-day experience will include a tour of the airport, a mock immigration experience and finally, the chance to board and then disembark an airplane.

"Say in plain English" nghĩa là gì?

"Say (something) in plain/simple English" -> nghĩa là nói rõ ràng, rành mạch, dùng từ thông dụng, đơn giản, dễ hiểu.

Ví dụ
OK, I will say it in plain English. This from a statement issued Thursday: “The presence of Confederate flags has been banned from all NASCAR events, races and properties effective immediately.”

Which brings us to the two most prominent crises facing the nation and world as we near the end of 2020: the economic downturn of the coronavirus pandemic and climate change. The opportunity — in simple English — comes in resolving the latter in how we address the former.

“I could be doing a reading, trying to explain a card and I’ve got spirits shouting in my ear trying to get me to say what they want the person to know. “I did a reading for a lady the other day and two ex-husbands and one relative were all trying to get messages across. I don’t self-censor (tự kiểm duyệt). If I get a clear message I say it in plain English.”

He said it pained him to raise these questions. "God knows, I wish I weren't here having to say this," Sullivan said. "No one wants to be here saying this. I don't want to believe the president of the United States is just delusional (hoang tưởng) or cannot accept reality. Of course not. It pains me. It gives me great pain and concern and distress. But at some point, being a writer or a journalist requires one to simply say what one is seeing in front of one's eyes. And sometimes you have to say that in plain English."

Chuyện nàng Kópakonan

shared from fb phan lặng yên,

Erikas Mališauskas and his girlfriend spent five hours calmly (bình tĩnh) removing stock images from their frames at the homeware giant's outlet in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius.

They had visited the store in advance to count the number of pictures they would need - and found there were 100 on display.

After a trip to a photo printing shop, they returned with a selection of their holiday snaps, selfies and pictures of drunken nights out - and inserted them into frames around the store.

Erikas said: 'We relaxed and made ourselves at home. We hope that people will like our faces!'

"Under no illusions" nghĩa là gì?

Photo by Randy Jacob on Unsplash

"Under no illusions" nghĩa là có ảo tưởng.

Ví dụ
After winning the League in 2013, St Pat’s qualified for the Champions League qualifying stage but then got paired with Polish champions Legia Warsaw. Dotted with international players throughout their squad, we were under no illusions that we were up against it.

While PCR is the college’s choice for routine tests that all students and staff must take, Ambar said rapid testing will also be used for those who show symptoms. “We are under no illusions about the challenge of this, and we are also under no illusions about the importance to the city,” she told Council.

Robbie Dolan, winner of the past two Sydney apprentice titles, is hoping promising filly (ngựa cái non) Elizabeel can give him the perfect start as a senior rider when she returns at Canterbury on Wednesday. The 24-year-old will ride as a senior jockey for the first time in the Bowermans Commerical Furniture Handicap (1200m) and is under no illusions about how tough it can be to stay in demand with a spring carnival on his doorstep.

Bài trước: "Suited and booted" nghĩa là gì?

if you are single (độc thân) and looking for a cool (ngầu) new way to meet people, Samsung has just the thing. The electronics company recently launched Refrigerdating, a service that matches you with dates based on what is inside your fridge. It’s like Tinder but you swipe through pictures of food, rather than faces. “We hope people can meet under more honest or transparent (minh bạch) circumstances with the help of the contents (nội dung, những thứ bên trong) of the fridge (tủ lạnh), because that can tell you a lot about the personality,” a PR manager explained.

Speaking of transparent, Samsung didn’t launch this site for the love of matchmaking (làm mai, làm mối); it is a promotional tactic (chiêu trò PR, quảng cáo) for its multi-thousand-pound smart fridges (tủ lạnh thông minh).

At this point I would like to point out that smart fridges are one of the stupidest things (ý tưởng ngu ngốc nhất) to come out of the modern world (thế giới hiện đại). It has been said cocaine (ma túy) is God’s way of telling you that you have too much money (có nhiều tiền); I reckon internet-connected fridges are God’s way of telling you that you should be paying more taxes (nên đóng thuế nhiều hơn).

"Work the crowd" nghĩa là gì?

Photo by: Nicholas Green on Unsplash

"Work the crowd" -> nghĩa là khuấy động đám đông/khán giả.

Ví dụ
Many a time I’m the warm-up act on the boardroom (phòng họp của ban giám đốc) stage. I may never manage to work the crowd into a frenzy, but at the very least I wake them from their slumber (giấc ngủ).

Rutherford and guitarist Zach Abels certainly knew how to work the crowd, moving around the stage and interacting (tương tác) with audience members

With their sparkly (lấp lánh) vests and agile (nhanh nhẹn) moves, these performers will be ready to entertain and work the crowd all through the weekend.
