"This is why we can't have nice things" = đây là lí do tại sao chúng ta không thể có những điều tốt đẹp -> câu đổ lỗi cho ai hoặc một nhóm vì hành động họ gây ra hỏng hóc, hư hỏng cho điều gì có giá trị.

Ví dụ
Calvin Singleton wrote: "This is why we can't have nice things." But others argued that both images are "acts of graffiti no matter who has done them". Liam Masey said: "So someone has graffitied a wall, the council try preserve (bảo tồn) it and then there's an uproar that someone else has graffitied the same wall. Both the same act despite who did either."

A young woman had climbed onto a hatchling (mới nở) that was emerging from its egg, and was seen gleefully (vui sướng) rocking the exhibit and posing for the camera. After her antics were shared on TikTok and later reposted on Facebook on Thursday (Oct 15), netizens called the visitor out on her inconsiderate behaviour. Several of them asked whether visitors are allowed to ride on the dinosaurs while others lamented "This is why we can't have nice things."

A glaring example occurred early on when a “wfh happy hour” between VC Hunter Walk and journalist (nhà báo) Casey Newton got Zoombombed. Chipotle also had to shut down a public Zoom chat when one of the attendees pushed porn (đồi trụy) to hundreds of participants, according to a New York Times report. This is why we can’t have nice things, even while working during quarantine.

BBC Radio 2 listeners have voted U2’s ‘The Joshua Tree’ the greatest album of the 1980s. This is why we can’t have nice things. The poll was announced to coincide (trùng với) with National Album Day, which was on Saturday. Did you listen to lots of albums? Did you listen to ‘The Joshua Tree’? Did you do either of those things remembering that Saturday was National Album Day?

"Like a chicken with the pip" = như gà bị ứ đờm -> nghĩa là rất yếu ớt/yếu đuối, mệt mỏi và u sầu.

Ví dụ
“This morning, I went to Lahad Datu Airport and I saw a man sitting on the side of the road like a chicken with the pip while surrounded by airport staff.

A six-year-old Eastern Cape boy who was reported missing on Monday has been found alive and unhurt but like a chicken with the pip , police said on Saturday.

Ndhlovu went on to say that he was hustling for a job at Kiss FM then but things weren’t just falling in place. He said this left him like a chicken with the pip but he kept asking God to come through for him.

"Play kissy-kissy with" nghĩa là gì?

"Play kissy-kissy with" -> nghĩa là hôn ai đắm đuối nơi công cộng; hoặc bợ đỡ/nịnh hót ai để có được sự cảm tình của người ta.

Ví dụ
“It’s really the only time my husband and I will be openly demonstrative, where we might hold hands and play kissy-kissy with each other,” he said.

On New Year’s Eve 2008, they ended up having their first kiss as they watched the ball drop in Times Square. “We were in front of people, and he’s not a big PDA guy,” the musician told Glamour in an interview. “I figured, I’ll go in for it because he can’t leave me hanging, right? So I made him play kissy-kissy with me.” Mike enjoyed that kiss so much, he asked Carrie to marry him the following year.

The film’s protagonist (vai chính), Damien Booster (Aaron Burt) shares that fear, but doesn’t seem to be quite ready to acknowledge that to himself or his charming girlfriend Danielle (Emily Pearse). After seven months of dating, Danielle’s ready to say those three fateful words. Damien, who won’t even play kissy-kissy with her, does everything he can to avoid the subject. An unrequited “I love you” is dangerous territory for any relationship, but his noncommittal (không hứa hẹn/cam kết) response to meeting her mother is enough to drive a heartbroken Dani to leave.
