"Seal her fate" nghĩa là gì?

Trong thành ngữ này có động từ to seal có nghĩa là đóng kín, bịt kín và fate có nghĩa là định mệnh, số phận. 'Seal one’s fate' có nghĩa là định đoạt số phận của một người nào đó.
Ví dụ
“My niece has been planning to go to her high school dance for months. But her dad warned her that he wouldn’t tolerate (dung thứ) any more poor grades in her science class. If she doesn’t do well on her next exam, it will seal her fate (coi như 'xong đời'); she won’t be allowed to go to the dance.”
“My son graduated # 1 in his class, got near perfect scores on the national aptitude (năng lực) tests and had an impressive background. We were so hopeful when he sent in his college application. But the rejection letter he received sealed his fate (đặt dấu chấm hết). He wouldn’t be getting into Harvard after all.”
