"Neither Here Nor There" nghĩa là gì?

Trước hết mời bạn làm quen với cụm từ để diễn ta ý phủ định neither…nor…Cụm từ này có nghĩa là không... mà cũng không....Thành ngữ 'neither here nor there' nghĩa đen là không ở chỗ này mà cũng chẳng ở chỗ khác, tức là không đúng vào vấn đề, không thích đáng.
Ví dụ
“Our senator was found guilty of taking tax money to pay for his summer home. When confronted (đối mặt), he reminded reporters that he had been serving the citizens for over 40 years. That remark was neither here nor there (chẳng ăn nhập chút nào); he’d broken the law. Did he think that he could divert our attention (không chú ý) from his crime?”
“Last weekend, my husband and I were trying to enjoy a movie and these three girls sitting behind us wouldn’t stop tallking. Finally I turned around and told them to please be quiet. That’s when one of them said to me: ‘Well, we were here before you.’ I was bewildered (bối rối) by her argument because it was neither here nor there.”
