'Out of the woods' (ra khỏi rừng, shared via VOA) có nghĩa là thoát khỏi nguy hiểm, không còn gặp rắc rối, khó khăn.

Ví dụ
After a successful heart operation (giải phẫu tim), my uncle is feeling much better, but he’s not out of the woods (chưa thoát nguy). It’s going to take months of following his doctor’s strict (nghiêm ngặt) orders before he’s no longer in any danger. I hope he makes a speedy recovery (bình phục).

Because of poor sales performance, our company suffered a terrible Christmas season. But in our last quarter (quý, tam cá nguyệt), we’ve rebounded (hồi phục) with strong gains. Our stockholders (cổ đông) are understandably pleased that we’re out of the woods (thoát hiểm). It’s a good feeling to have our troubles behind us for now.

One of the questions I’m asked most often is how to avoid another financial crisis. My first answer is that I’m not sure we’re out of the woods on this one yet. Financial institutions around the world are still unwind- ing their leverage, and governments are saddled with too much debt. To fully recover, the federal government must improve its long-term fiscal position by reducing spending, addressing the unfunded liabilities in Social Security and Medicare, and creating the conditions for the private sector — especially small businesses — to generate new jobs.
