"Play a waiting game" nghĩa là gì?

'Play a waiting game' có hai từ mới. Một là động từ to play, nghĩa là chơi, và hai là game nghĩa là trò chơi. Vì thế, play a waiting game có nghĩa là cố ý hoãn đưa ra một quyết định hay một hành động để sau đó có thể đạt được nhiều hiệu quả hơn.
Ví dụ
Nicole saved a lot of money on her new car. Because she knew the car dealer (người bán xe) was anxious (mong mỏi) to make the sale, she made him a modest (khiêm nhường) offer. A few hours later, the dealer agreed to Nicole’s asking price. By playing a waiting game (chơi trò chờ đợi), she got her vehicle for a lot less.
Most scientists (nhà khoa học) agree that global warming is a real concern (mối lo ngại). That’s why they encourage us to take action now so we can reduce the threat of dramatic changes in our climate (khí hậu). We can no longer afford to play a waiting game. We have all the information we need today in order to decide what to do.
