'Go to town' có nghĩa là làm một cái gì thật nhanh chóng và chu đáo.

Ví dụ
My wife likes a clean house. But since she’s been away on business for a week, I’ve been rather lazy (hơi lười biếng). Now that she’s on her way home from the airport, I don’t have much time to do the dishes and vacuuming (hút bụi). I had better go to town (dọn dẹp thật nhanh) or she’ll walk in on a big mess (lộn xộn, bẩn thỉu)!

The Statue of Liberty needed a pedestal (cái bệ) to rest on. Unfortunately, there was no money in the budget to build one. That’s when a New York newspaper invited readers to send in donations (hiến tặng). Fortunately, they went to town (hưởng ứng nhanh chóng). In less than 7 months, 121,000 contributors (người đóng góp) raised the necessary funds and the famous landmark was soon dedicated (khánh thành).
