"Give someone the slip" nghĩa là gì?

'Give someone the slip' có nghĩa là tránh gặp mặt một người nào một cách khéo léo. Slip ở đây có nghĩa là trốn tránh.
Ví dụ
This guy (anh chàng) I met at the conference (hội nghị) was following me around all day. He just didn’t understand that I wasn’t interested in him. Finally I gave him the slip. While he was busy talking to one of the presenters (thuyết trình viên), I managed to leave through the back door.
As police arrived to arrest (bắt) the woman for using stolen credit cards (thẻ tín dụng bị đánh cắp), she managed to escape. But she didn’t give them the slip for long. She was soon caught (bắt) at the airport.
