I was cut to the quick by her harsh (cay nghiệt) remarks.

The first episode's climax (đỉnh điểm), for instance, involves one of his classmates calling the young Eddie a racial slur (điều nhục nhã, vết nhơ bẩn), and it cuts to the quick, slicing through the inherent (vốn có) artifice (kỹ xảo) of comedy to get at the frustration (sự vỡ mộng, thất vọng) and anger Eddie feels in that moment.

The central question of this show is, "Can a freak (người kỳ dị, đồng bóng) find love?" — and since most of us think of ourselves as freaks, that theme can cut to the quick, if the production is up to the job. - What about The Last Ship initially grabbed you?
- There’s something visceral (theo bản năng) that happens when I first encounter material (tài liệu). It isn’t much about intellectual judgment. I’ll be reading a piece and somewhere along the line (ở một giai đoạn nào đó) something catches. That’s always a good sign, and I definitely felt that. Even though the world is very different from mine, there's something about The Last Ship that instantly cut me to the quick.
