"Up or down vote" nghĩa là gì?

'Up or down vote' là một cuộc bỏ phiếu trực tiếp ở Hạ viện Hoa Kỳ hoặc Thượng viện Mỹ về một sửa đổi hay một dự luật; đôi khi được gọi là "clean vote". Các thành viên bỏ phiếu hoặc thuận hoặc chống về vấn đề này chứ không phải bỏ phiếu đối với vận động tố tụng liên quan (a related procedural maneuver). Tùy theo các quy tắc sắp xếp đối với loại hình cụ thể của sửa đổi hay dự luật, cuộc bỏ phiếu để được thông qua cần có đa số 2/3, đa số 3/5, hoặc chỉ là đa số thường; bỏ phiếu thuận-hoặc-chống.
