"Throw somebody under the bus" nghĩa là gì?

'To throw (someone) under the bus' (ném ai xuống dưới gầm xe buýt) nghĩa là hi sinh một người bạn hay đồng minh vì lý do ích kỉ (sacrifice a friend or ally for selfish reasons). Cụm từ này thường được dùng để miêu tả một lời phủ nhận tự bảo vệ (a self-defensive disavowal) và cắt đứt mối quan hệ trước đây thân thiện khi mối quan hệ này trở nên gây tranh cãi hoặc không được nhiều người ưa thích.
