'Beauty is only skin deep' ý nói chúng ta nên cân nhắc kĩ càng mỗi khi đánh giá con người bởi vì tính cách, tâm hồn, trí tuệ quan trọng hơn diện mạo. Sự quyến rũ bề ngoài dễ làm cho chúng ta bị mê hoặc và lầm lẫn. Những thứ trông có vẻ hào nhoáng, đẹp đẽ có thể không thực sự tuyệt vời như thế (external attractiveness has no relation to goodness or essential quality); tốt gỗ hơn tốt nước sơn.
