'Put one's foot in it' nghĩa là nói hay làm một điều gì đó thiếu tế nhị hoặc gây ngượng ngùng; nói hớ, làm phiền ai (say or do something tactless or embarrassing; commit a blunder or indiscretion).

Ví dụ
New Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia has already put his foot in it with supporters by calling David Cameron 'a great Villan'.

Simon Cowell and David Walliams have a strange relationship between them, but it seems Simon Cowell may well have put his foot in it during a recent Britain’s Got Talent auditions stop.

Donald Trump had the right idea in calling a press conference to counter-program the drumbeat of anti-Trump rhetoric spilling out of the convention, but he put his foot in it bigly – to use a Trumpism – when his joke sent GOP elders scrambling to distance themselves and reminded America of just how much of a loose cannon he’d be in the Oval Office.
