Vì sao Thủ tướng Narendra Modi được ngưỡng mộ?

vì ông nhịn sex và hoàn toàn không uống rượu :D

…[the] US for instance…worships sex, and…celibates (chưa lập gia đình, độc thân (nhất là vì lý do tôn giáo), không có quan hệ tình dục) are viewed as “losers”. A Hollywood film that describes this social mindset is “40 year old virgin” that came out a decade or so ago.

India makes an interesting contrast. Though the life of the “married householder” is an ideal in India, celibates are viewed with respect (kính trọng) and admired (khâm phục, ngưỡng mộ) for their self-restraint (tự kiềm chế). This is actually one important contributor to the charm (sức mê hoặc, bùa yêu, ngải) and charisma (uy tín, sức thu hút của lãnh tụ) of Narendra Modi – a celibate man, a teetotaller (người bài rượu, người kiêng rượu hoàn toàn) among other things. He is viewed as someone who has “conquered his senses” and is incorruptible.

This streak of anti-sensuality, very much a part of Indian culture, is not to be found in US.

More westernized Indians on the cultural Left, back in India, mock at the public’s fascination with Modi’s celibacy and his puritanism (thanh giáo, chủ nghĩa đạo đức). There are jokes in this group that Modi is probably gay or asexual (vô tính). No wonder he can stay single.

Again this highlights the large chasm (vực thẳm, ngăn cách lớn, sự khác biệt lớn (về quan điểm, tư tưởng, quyền lợi)) between the attitudes of the modern western mind which does not choose to view sensual restraint as a virtue (đức hạnh, đức tính tốt, ưu điểm), versus more traditional societies where self-denial (sự giữ giới, ép xác, tiết dục) and austerity  (khổ hạnh, khắc khổ, mộc mạc chân phương) command a certain awe.
