'Out of line' có nghĩa là vượt ra ngoài lằn ranh hay giới hạn, tức là cư xử trái phép, không thể chấp nhận được trong một hoàn cảnh nào đó.

Ví dụ
“Some parents don’t know how to behave. At my son’s soccer game, one player’s dad ran onto the field and started screaming at the referee about a call he didn’t agree with. He was so out of line (thật chẳng phải phép gì cả). I don’t blame the officials for banning him from the stands (khán đài) for the rest of the season. What he did was unacceptable.”

“What can a potential employer ask you? It’s fair enough for an interviewer to inquire about your job history and education. Yet questions about your religion and political views are way out of line (vượt quá giới hạn). You never have to answer them. Not only are they inappropriate (không thích đáng), but they are also illegal.”
