"Moment of Truth" nghĩa là gì?

'Moment of truth' có từ moment nghĩa là lúc, hay giây phút còn từ truth nghĩa là sự thật. Vì thế, thành ngữ này được dùng để chỉ thời điểm phải đối phó với thực tế, để xem liệu một việc gì đó sẽ thành công hay thất bại, nhất là khi mình đã bỏ nhiều công lao để làm việc đó.
Ví dụ
“Algebra didn’t come easy to me. But I knew I had to pass the class in order to graduate. Throughout the semester, I met my teacher after school for extra help and studied real hard for tests. My moment of truth came (Giờ phút quyết định đã tới) when my grades arrived. I got a B, which was good enough (đủ để) to earn my diploma (bằng trung học)!”
“My brother David had been going out with Linda for months. They seemed to share similar interests and values. In his mind, she was the perfect woman for him. So he decided that the time had come to ask her if she’d marry him. It was the moment of truth (đối diện với sự thật); a day he’ll never forget because she turned him down.”
