"Big fish in a small pond" nghĩa là gì?

Hitotsubashi University, farewell party. Aug 01, 2010.

'Big fish in a small pond' có pond là cái ao.

“Of the 60 students in her graduating class, Tania ranked number one. She received many honors (bằng danh dự), including a scholarship (học bổng) to one of the top universities in the country. Once there, Tania found it difficult adjusting (khó thích ứng) to classmates who were as talented as she was (cũng giỏi như cô). That’s because she had been used (quen) to being a big fish in a small pond (đứng hạng nhất trong trường trung học nhỏ bé của mình).”

“Everyone at our real estate office knows the Kims. They’ve been successful sellers at the firm for several years. They could easily join (dễ dàng gia nhập) a much larger staff at a more prestigious (có thanh thế) office. But then they’d no longer be big fish in a small pond (không còn là số một nữa). And that wouldn’t interest them (họ không thích điều đó).”
