"Caught in the crossfire" nghĩa là gì?

'Caught in the crossfire' có một từ mới là caught, thì quá khứ của động từ to catch, là mắc phải, vướng phải. Thành ngữ này có nghĩa là bị mắc kẹt giữa hai lằn đạn, hay là bị giằng co vì lý luận của hai phe đối nghịch nhau.
Ví dụ
A lot of the team is ready to quit (nghỉ chơi) football this season. Our co-captains are constantly disagreeing so that we don't know which of them we're supposed to listen to. One thing is sure: we've had enough of being caught in the crossfire (đặt vào thế kẹt giữa hai người).
I should have never (đáng lý ra tôi không bao giờ nên) started talking about the election at the party. Before long, it became a huge fight (tranh cãi dữ dội) between political conservatives and liberals. Those of us who are moderates (chủ trương ôn hòa) found ourselves caught in the crossfire. It was awful (thật là khủng khiếp)!
