My candle burns at both ends: It will not last the night. But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends, It gives a lovely light.

Ví dụ
At the around-the-clock Rimports USA factory, workers metaphorically burn the candle at both ends, even as they make them.

“I burn the candle at both ends,” Harvey explained and says she did not allow herself to read anything unrelated to her thesis.

Lately, I’ve been covering for (làm việc thay) a co-worker, who’s sick, as well as coordinating a conference for local journalists, and entertaining my in-laws (tiếp đãi gia đình chồng) while they’re in town (khi họ đến chơi). As a result, I haven’t been getting enough rest. Frankly, I don’t know how much longer I can burn the candle at both ends (kiệt lực).

When I was younger, I had lots of energy (sinh lực). I used to work all day, and then go out partying with my friends until morning without getting tired. But those days are long gone (những ngày như thế đã hết lâu rồi). I can no longer burn the candle at both ends.
