'Make the grade' có từ grade là trình độ hay tiêu chuẩn. Vì thế. 'make the grade' có nghĩa là đạt được tiêu chuẩn yêu cầu, hay đạt kết quả mà người ta mong đợi.

Everybody eats between meals (bữa ăn chính). If you’re looking for a snack (thức ăn vặt) that’s fun (ngon) and healthy (bổ), fresh fruit, cheese (phó mát) and yogurt (sữa chua) make the grade. They are so nutritious (bổ dưỡng), in fact, that they qualify as small meals.
