'Clever Dick' nghĩa là kẻ tự cho rằng mình thông thạo mọi sự trên đời (a person considered to have an unwarrantably high opinion of his own ability or knowledge; an intellectual who is ostentatiously and irritatingly knowledgeable).

Ví dụ
Davis may be cleverer than his Today colleague Justin Webb, but he still suffers from the disease that tends to affect all BBC presenters – being a “clever dick”: ie, constantly wishing to appear knowing about things while not really knowing about them at all.

Clever-dick Harman is the headmaster of Uppingham School in Rutland, where the fees for boarders (học sinh nội trú) exceed £30,000 a year – twice the earnings of a worker on the national minimum wage. He boasted (bốc phét) that we should take pride (tự hào) that Britain has “some of the best schools in the world”.

The civil war was neither a social revolution nor a Whig triumph, but an avoidable breakdown (an analysis which reflects the current scholarly consensus, and which is remarkably close to David Hume’s take in the 18th century).
