Some couples may use bondage to spice up their sex lives and even save their relationships.
But tying up a partner saves the lives of spiders, by preventing their eight-legged lover from eating them.
Research has found that technique is used by male nursery web spiders to reduce their chances of falling prey to sexual cannibalism by a female with an appetite for more than sex.
It is not unusual for female spiders to devour (ăn ngấu nghiến) their mate (bạn tình) and the practice has even given the black widow spider (nhện góa phụ đen) its name.
...While female nursery web spiders, known as Pisaurina mira, may have larger bodies than their male counterparts, males have longer front legs, which they use for manipulating silk and tightly restraining their partner during sex.
They are thought to be the only species of spider to do this, with others playing dead or sedating females to avoid becoming a post-coital (sau khi làm tình) snack.
