"Smooth words" nghĩa là gì?

Thật êm tai quá chăng...? Photo courtesy MattysFlicks.

'Smooth words' có từ smooth là ngọt xớt, dẻo mồm ((thường) nói về đàn ông); vì thế từ này nghĩa là lời nói ngọt xớt.

Ví dụ
Michael Ward, an Air Force master sergeant, knows how to flash a smile, give a firm handshake and offer a few smooth words to make people feel comfortable.

What an apologist for a violent system of political submission pawning itself off as a religion of peace. I'm sure you also have smooth words to justify the Armenian genocide (tội diệt chủng) whereby 1 1/2 million Christian Armenians were murdered (giết, tàn sát) by the conquering (chinh phạt) Muslims.

“I totally condemn the sinister motive of Sinn Féin under the disguise of the County Derry and Antrim Republican Graves for lodging a planning application to erect a 1916 monument in Magherafelt in close proximity to the WWII monument application. Not only was no one from the area killed in the Dublin Easter Rising of 1916, no one from the area even took part in it. This stunt is nothing more than an act of marking territory (đánh dấu lãnh thổ). The application further flies in the face of Sinn Fein’s smooth words of harmony and peace and only endorses the hypocrisy (thái độ đạo đức giả) of what Martin McGuiness performed recently when he visited the Somme. This visit was only a smoke screen (màn khói, bình phong, màn hỏa mù) and doesn’t fool Mid Ulster Unionists." ~ Councillor McLean.
