As I started to write about onboarding, I thought about how people miss the boat on how much impact it has. That made me ask: Why? When organizations spend millions of hours, brain cells and dollars on their recruiting efforts, why do they drop the ball on a no-brainer opportunity to keep that positive momentum going? That’s when I realized the reason: Onboarding is the second impression. Nobody has been repeating for years that the second impression matters as much as the first. Maybe that’s why some organizations give onboarding minimal attention even when the numbers prove how essential it is.
