"Across the Board" nghĩa là gì?

'Across the board' có một từ mới là board nghĩa là tấm bảng.' Across the board' có nghĩa là toàn bộ, toàn diện, trên mọi lĩnh vực. Thành ngữ này xuất xứ từ giới đua ngựa, khi người ta muốn thắng bằng cách đánh cược một con ngựa về cả hạng nhất, nhì và ba trên tấm bảng ghi các cuộc đua và tỷ lệ tiền cược.
Ví dụ
“Last semester, I encouraged Julie to work harder in order to get better grades. She certainly took my advice. She just showed me her report card and she’s made dramatic improvement. Not just in one or two classes, but across the board (mà trong tất cả mọi lớp). Amazingly, she’s made progress in every subject.”
