"Cut both ways" nghĩa là gì?

'Cut both ways': cắt cả hai chiều, tức là cùng một lúc có hai hậu quả khác nhau, thường một xấu và một tốt.
Ví dụ
My colleague’s daughter loves Christmas so much that she wants to hold her wedding (lễ cưới) on that day. I can see how special (đặc biệt) that would be for the daughter, but it might also prove a difficult day to bring together guests, who might be busy with their own holiday celebrations (lễ lạt riêng của họ). It could cut both ways (có cái hay mà cũng có cái dở).
Smart phones make it easy to stay connected (liên hệ với nhau một cách dễ dàng) and get information instantly wherever we are. At the same time, they can encourage us to drive less safely because we aren’t giving our full attention (không chú ý đầy đủ) to traffic. They can cut both ways. There are advantages as well as disadvantages.
