"Neck of the Woods" nghĩa là gì?

'Neck of the Woods' có một từ mới là neck, ở đây có nghĩa là một mảnh đất nhỏ. Vì thế, 'neck of the woods' dùng để chỉ địa phương mình ở, khu vực, hay vùng lân cận.

Here in Hollywood, California, it’s common (thông thường) for us to run into (ngẫu nhiên gặp) movie stars and famous directors since they live and work here. So I can understand how tourists get all excited when they see a celebrity (người nổi tiếng). I would too, if I weren’t from this neck of the woods (sống ở địa phương này).
When I went to visit a friend of mine in the Midwest (vùng Trung Tây nước Mỹ) he introduced me to his sister at dinner. Since I’m from Washington D.C., the nation’s capital, and people here tend to talk about politics (bàn về chính trị), I told her about recent elections. It was clear from her reaction (phản ứng) that she knew I wasn’t from her neck of the woods!
