"In the wings" nghĩa là gì?

'In the wings' là cánh gà, tức là khu vực được che kín ở hai bên sân khấu trong một rạp hát, nơi mà một diễn viên ngồi chờ để đóng thay cho một diễn viên khác nếu người đó bị bịnh hay không thể trình diễn được. Vì thế, in the wings có nghĩa là sẵn sàng hành động để thay thế cho một người hay một vật khác.

Losing the team’s best kicker might have been a disaster (tai họa) if not for Coach Johnson’s thoughtful planning.
