'Too close to call' có hai từ mới.

My friend and I go to the racetrack (trường đua ngựa) once in a while. The last time (lần vừa rồi) we bet (đánh cá) on a horse that looked like a good pick. And for most of the race, he was comfortably ahead. But then another horse caught up (bắt kịp) to him and the two seemed to cross the finish line at the same time. The crowd (đám đông khán giả) roared (reo hò vang dội), yet the race was too close to call. No one knew the result until the judges studied the photos and declared our horse the winner!

Usually, it doesn’t take long to decide (quyết định) the winner of a presidential contest. In 2000, however, the election was too close to call. Even experts were unsure of the outcome. Finally, after 36 days of studying ballots (cứu xét và đếm lại các lá phiếu), recounting votes and getting the Supreme Court (Tối cao Pháp viện) to make a ruling, George W. Bush became the 43rd president of the United States!
