"Go through the motions" nghĩa là gì?

'Go through the motions' có một từ mới là motion, nghĩa là sự chuyển động, cử động. Go through the motions có nghĩa là giả bộ làm một việc gì nhưng không chân thành hay nghiêm chỉnh, làm việc cho có lệ.
Ví dụ
The day the hurricane hit New Orleans, The Saints, the city’s football team (đội bóng bầu dục), were playing in California. They were so concerned (quá lo lắng) about the troubles their families and friends were facing back home, they couldn’t concentrate (chú tâm) on their game. So they simply went through the motions (đấu bóng lấy lệ). Who can blame (trách) them for not showing any real interest in playing?
Jane didn’t enjoy her job. She was tired of performing the same tasks again and again with no real enthusiasm (hăng say). Then she found a new position in another company. Now she looks forward to (mong mỏi) going to work. She doesn’t go through the motions anymore.
