'Give it to someone straight' có nghĩa là nói thẳng thắn và chân thật với một người nào đó, về một vấn đề gì, nhất là khi vấn đề đó không tốt đẹp.
Ví dụ
Everyone in our company waited to hear about possible layoffs (sa thải, mất việc). The manager decided to give it to us straight. She told us directly that the plant (nhà máy) was going to close because labor was cheaper overseas (hải ngoại).
