"With a grain of salt" nghĩa là gì?

'With a grain of salt' có từ grain là hạt, và salt là muối. 'With a grain of salt' nghĩa đen là với một hạt muối, tức là không tin tất cả những gì mình nghe thấy vì nghi ngờ rằng điều đó không hoàn toàn đúng sự thật. Cụm từ này được dịch từ tiếng La tinh 'cum grano salis'. Đây là những chữ mà một nhà văn La Mã dùng khi viết về chuyện một vị tướng khám phá ra một thứ thuốc giải độc mà nạn nhân uống cùng với một chút muối. Đôi khi người Mỹ cũng dùng a pinch of salt, pinch là một nhúm hay một chút xíu.

Investors need to take analysts’ opinions with a grain of salt. Analysts are prone to (thiên về) use flawed (thiếu sót) methodologies (phương pháp luận), suffer from conflicts of interest, and make systematic mistakes.
Anthropologists (nhà nhân chủng học) taking ebola ‘preppers’ (who plan, train and stockpile in preparation for a natural calamity (tai họa) or societal breakdown) with a grain of salt. Preppers are at the extreme edge of concern over ebola, which has led to a series of false alarms driven by fear.
