'Close to the bone' (thấu tận xương tủy) nghĩa là thiếu tế nhị, cợt nhả (very personal or offensively honest).

Ví dụ
He said he was only joking, but his comments were so close to the bone they weren't funny at all.

In fact, the show has a history of including close to the bone gags (lời nói giỡn chơi, trò khôi hài) about a host of minority groups. One widely cited example: "Sophie is the loudest person we know. Even black people at the movies tell Sophie to be quiet,"

With its references to software technology, cricket, and Mumbai’s criminal gangs, it is a script with an attitude (thái độ, quan điểm), and one less likely to arouse (khuấy động) the ire (sự nổi giận) of religious fundamentalists (người theo trào lưu chính thống), but more likely to make scissor-happy censors (nhân viên kiểm duyệt) salivate (chảy nước miếng), because, by going to the heart of the corporate-police-politician-criminal nexus (mối quan hệ), once again, Nagarkar goes close to the bone.
