'Take the law into one's own hands' nghĩa là tự trừng phạt ai theo cách của mình, nhất là vi phạm pháp luật hoặc bạo lực, mà không nhờ đến công an hay chính quyền can thiệp (punish someone for an offense according to one's own ideas of justice, especially in an illegal or violent way; punish someone or do something to put a situation right, instead of waiting for the police or the legal system to take action); (old) 'thế thiên hành đạo', (giờ là) 'vô pháp vô thiên'.
