"Give the glad hand to" nghĩa là gì?

giang tay chào đón... Photo courtesy The White House.

'Give (one) the glad hand' nghĩa là tiếp đón ai niềm nở (to address one in a friendly manner, often when it is feigned or false).

Ví dụ
The Captain Phillips star gave the glad hand to hunky Bradley Cooper who was grinning at something Tom told him.

When the catholic prelate arrived on the scene this week, Bishop Andrus offered the glad hand of welcome, not to Archbishop Cordileone, but to those Roman Catholics who feel ostracized (khai trừ, tẩy chay; đày, phát vãng) by their new spiritual leader's strict adherence to Catholic doctrine.

It is enthusiastic, exuberant (cởi mở, hồ hởi, sôi nổi); it offers the glad hand to any one, young or old, who has something special and personal to say in modern art. And its welcome is generous; each man has space enough for all his moods…. We cannot always tell what they mean, but at least [the cubists] are having a good time.

All must get their shoulder to the wheel and push together and we should each give the glad hand to our neighbor who is pushing whether he be a foreign born or a native, a Jew or Gentile, Catholic or a Protestant, or whether he be black or white, and if we do we will begin to realize that they are all pretty good citizens and pretty good fellows when we get acquainted with (quen biết với, hiểu cặn kẽ về) them.
