'Be dead to the world' nghĩa là say giấc nồng, ngủ sâu giấc (hay gọi là ngủ say như chết).

Ví dụ
A dog can be dead to the world when it’s sleeping, but when a door opens, it instantly (ngay lập tức) comes to life and sprints (chạy lao ra, chạy nước rút) to the door to check it out. This dog behavior is similar to ours when we’re surprised at something—we perk (ngẩng đầu) right up to see what’s up.

One wine cooler, another, some straight swigs (hớp) of whiskey, and there it was: release—a numbness (tê liệt) leading to a drowsiness (tình trạng buồn ngủ, ngủ lơ mơ) that would end the evening in dead-to-the-world sleep.

Second, and more crucially (quan trọng), this answer tips toward a common conflation (kết hợp) of the act of passing out (bất tỉnh) — sliding into unconsciousness (mất ý thức), eyes closed, being what drinkers often call “dead to the world” — and the act of blacking out (trở nên vô thức), a temporary, alcohol-induced state in which you can remain functional and conversational, but later you will have no memory of what you did, almost as though your brain failed to hit the “record” button. This phenomenon (hiện tượng) remains unknown to many, even experts (chuyên gia) who ought to know better — doctors, journalists, judges.
