"A deer in the headlights" nghĩa là gì?

"A deer in the headlights" = con hươu đứng trước đèn pha ô tô. Do khi hươu đứng trước đèn pha ô tô, nó đứng sững và phải mất một khoảng thời gian để làm quen với ánh sáng chói do đèn chiếu tới, nên dựa trên hiện tượng đó, cụm "A deer in the headlights" được dùng để ám chỉ vẻ mặt sững sờ, ngạc nhiên, cứng đờ hay đôi khi là sợ hãi của ai đó; 'con nai vàng ngơ ngác' đó các bạn :)
Ví dụ:
The thief was like a deer caught in the headlights when the police's flashlight (đèn pin) was pointed towards him.
