Researchers at the University of St Andrews have trained (huấn luyện) three grey seals (hải cẩu) to copy sound sequences (âm thanh liên tục), resulting in a several-note (nốt nhạc) rendition (thể hiện; dịch lại) of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and the Star Wars theme tune (giai điệu).

Professor Vincent Janik pointed out that copying language is one part, but understanding it is another."Our study suggests that [seals] have the production (sản xuất) skills to produce human language. Whether they can make sense (hiểu được) of it would be the next question,"

"Since seals use the same neural (thuộc hệ thần kinh) and anatomical (cơ thể) structures as humans to produce these sounds, they provide a good model (mẫu) system in which to study how speech sounds are learned."
