"Slip on a banana skin/peel" = trượt vỏ chuối -> tự làm mình xấu hổ, phạm sai lầm ngốc nghếch. "Banana skin" (vỏ chuối) có nghĩa bóng là một hành động/ tình huống gây xấu hổ, lúng túng.

Ví dụ
There’s still a month to go before the Tory Party reaches its decision (đưa ra quyết định). In that time, I think Jeremy Hunt is far less likely to slip on a banana skin than his charismatic blond opponent (đối thủ tóc vàng quyến rũ).

Slipping on a banana peel was considered such a real danger, that Teddy Roosevelt himself, who was then President of the New York City Board of Police Commissioners (Ủy ban cảnh sát thành phố), declared (tuyên bố) a “war on the banana skin” in 1896.

While Dean said it could prove problematic (có vấn đề) come the race on Saturday and Sunday, he made clear that the Yorkshire-based team has been working to avoid any slip-ups (trượt dốc). “I think that is our potential banana skin,” he admitted.
