"Save her face" nghĩa là gì?

"Save (one's) face" = Giữ bộ mặt của ai -> Giữ thể diện của ai.

In the past, a man could challenge another to a duel (tranh chấp tay đôi) by slapping (đập, tát) him across the face with an empty glove (một bên tay không đeo găng tay). To protect his honor (danh dự), or to save face, the slapped person must agree to the duel.
Last year during my sociolinguistics (ngôn ngữ học xã hội) class in graduate school, my professor introduced me to the concept of facework. Judith Anne Spiers refers to face work as “ways people cooperatively attempt to promote both the other's and one's own sense of self-esteem (tự trọng), autonomy (sự tự trị), and solidarity (sự đoàn kết) in conversation.” Most people have probably heard of “saving face” and “losing face,” (mất mặt, mất thể diện) both of which are related to face work. This process revolves around how we are perceived by other people, and is a good companion (người đồng hành) to the concept of emotional labor. The perception and opinion of the masses has mattered little more in any other place than it does in Monterey.
