"Sell you down the river" nghĩa là gì?

"Sell one down the river" = bán một người xuống miền ở cuối sông -> bán đứng/ phản bội ai. Thành ngữ này xuất hiện trong thời có chế độ nô lệ ở Hoa Kỳ, điều khổ nhất đối với một người nô lệ là bị bán cho một chủ khác ở cuối sông Mississipi. Khi bị bán như vậy thì người nô lệ phải từ bỏ gia đình và làm việc ở chỗ mới cho đến chết, nên đây là điều không ai muốn.
